Jets mentioned the non Super 14 ones are meeting in Canberra this weekend. I wanted to see how we are faring this year. I think its fair to suggest we believe we have underperformed lately.

So going through the squads and assuming eligible players must be born in 1990 or after (gees I feel old).

- Robbie Coleman Centre/Flyhalf
- Colby Fainga'a Flanker
- Talalelei Gray No.8
- Michael Hooper Flanker
- Clinton Sills Fullback/Wing
- Nick White Scrumhalf
- James Ambrosini Flyhalf
- Jean-Marc Berthelot Back Rowborn in 92
- Rod Esekia Inside Centre
- Zac Frank Lockborn in 92
- Richard Hooper Wing
- Melbourne Lesa Hooker
- Leslie Makin Prop/Hookerborn in 92
- Tim Metcher Prop
- Tyler Stevens Fullback
- Dylan Taikato-Simpson Fullback/Flyhalf

Waratahs:
- Tim Bennetts (Centre)
- Locky Mccaffrey (backrow)
- Greg Peterson (Lock)
- Paddy Ryan (Prop)
- Jacob Woodhouse (Fullback)
- Damon Anderson (Wing/Fullback)
- Phoenix Battye (Lock)

- Eddie Bredenhann (Scrumhalf)

- Jarrad Butler (backrow)
- Aaron Chapman (backrow)
- Joel Faulkner (centre)
- Mitchell Felsman (outside back) born in 92
- Liam Gill (openside)born in 92
- Jono Lance (flyhalf)
- Matt Lucas (scrumhalf) born in 92
- Simon Morahan (fullback)
- Ed Quirk (flanker)
- Jake Schatz (backrow)
- Dom Shipperley (outside back)
- Kimami Sitauti (wing)

Only player born 1990 or 1991 are eligible for the Under 20's. I think this rules out Gill and Lucas.

JOC (James O'Connor) won't tour. Short on hookers? I don't know all the players but something like:

15 Aidan Toua
14 Kimami Sitauti
13 Afusipa Taumoepeau
12 Jono Lance
11 Luke Morahan
10 Matt To'omua
9 Justin Turner
8 Jake Schatz
7 Ed Quirk
6 Locky Mccaffrey
5 Greg Peterson
4 Luke Jones
3 Paddy Ryan
2
1 Paul Alo-Emile

Then the likes of Hooper, Gray, Seymoure, Turner, Woodhouse, Sills, Fainga'a, Coleman etc in the squad.

I imagine Dave Faeo might get a run given he played a whole year of Premier grade last year and is currently propping for the QLD 2nd XV. Looks like he has bulked up and retained most of his speed.

Hooker could be an issue. Think back to qld U19s last year and the colts comp in general, Alex Casey was the hooker, but certainly a fair way off this level.

Also look out for players outside squads, usually club players involved. Evans (Uni) didn't last too long at Wasps, no idea why. Fou from Souths could be a very unlikely bolter. Invited to 7s camp and played prems after less than 8 games of rugby (no league background either).

Prior and Burns from UQ are still in the squad.

Evans isn't.

yeah? How old? Must have been a misprint in the paper work I have.

The Waratahs site doesn't show a date of birth, but the fact that Paddy Ryan played Australian schoolboys in 2006 indicates either a very precocious talent or definite ineligibility.

Paddy was born 9 Aug 88.

Would you happen to know the maiden name of his maternal grandmother, Lee? Just trying to test how complete your knowledge of rugby players really is.

I think I dated her once.

Paddy's DOB was in the Tahs Guide to the 2010 season which I lifted from the Tahs reception desk.

I wonder how Situati will go in the 15's game. Trust me, I've seen him play, and he failed to live up to the hype. Maybe 7's is just his forte

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: someone woke up that he isn't a team player or can't handle the tight stuff did they. Or perhaps he was asked to pass a ball and he coughed up a piece of fur instead.

Trust me too: he hogged the ball a lot in the Oz Schools tournament last year but before you could say "Greedy sod" he was walking back getting pats on the back for scoring a try.

You're right in saying that 7s suits this type of play but don't write him off as a 15s player once he gets some good coaching. The raw material is there.

The players available look good but they will suffer, as they do every year, in the physical contests. We had 3 outstanding tight five forwards for Oz Schools last year: locks Jones (who can play 6 and 8 also) and Peterson, plus THP PAE. They have another year of eligibility for U20s in 2011 and their effect may be felt more next year but you never know. Jones has already been on the park for the Force in the S14 and the other 2 have played for, and trained with, their Academies.

The problem for the U/20 team apart from the 3 mentioned, is backup for them, hooker and LHP. The backrow and back 3 should be outstanding but the 9,10 and 12 positions don't have a lot of depth.

Australia will never go well at U20 as long as we dont take it seriously, have a look at the 6 nations they have a U20 comp running parralel to the comp proper, in Australia it will rarely happen that the U20 players will play together at any level.

I think a one off U/20 match between Australia and NZ would be good. That or Australia hosts the U/20 World Cup in 2012.

I always am convinced that the youngsters we send over to these comps are going to dominate and that it's a freak 'crop' etc etc however we always seem to come back with out tails between our legs, even when Pocock and co were playing.
