Any chance of the aforementioned Faul coming up to the 1st XV? I had seen him at the U-16 National Champs playing in the Indigenous side, and he had a great running game for a young man his size, though fitness and the breakdown are certainly areas of improvement. Possibly his lack of experience might go against him, but i could certainly see him as a force to be reckoned with at the back of a scrum.

Faull is a great player. Time will tell I guess - Riverview doesn't have much depth in the No. 8 position, nor is there backrow going to be particularly good relative to competition (note to other teams coaches' - area of exploitation), so anything is possible.

I might have to disagree with this statement. riverview have a range of capable backrowers in hayson, menzies, reneker, weston etc.

I think they can stack up well with the rest of the GPS, however joeys have always rivaled the famous riverview age group of 2014 and with scots, kings and joeys under 16s all having cracker teams last year it looks like there may a tight tussle up the top of the table

Yes, it seems quite the place to be. Unfortunately for all us would be assistants, at Riverview at least, their is a practice of Senior Students acting as managers. This year it seems that Daniel Kilpatrick (of 2nd XV fame, sitting out this year as mentioned earlier) and Thomas Morgan (Coxswain of the Riverview 1st VIII) are filling those positions.

Also, I am unsure as to whether Jason is actually head coach at Riverview. their is some mention from the staff there that he is in fact coaching together with Anthony Cook, who has been the 2nd XV coach for many years. With Potts the previous coach out, there are some big shoes to fill.

i agree with the backrow. I hear reneker is particularly strong this season having trained his lungs all off season. Hunter and dsilva are also looking for front row positions having had similar off season programs.

It is only too obvious to see the difference between school boys with a free period and those actually seeking some discussion and clarification on the coming season.

With Riverview trialling against Waverly on the weekend with a large squad in 1sts and 2nds, I was keen to know which other GPS schools are trialling, and whom they are up against.

I always find it interesting when GPS plays other schools, often CAS, as it gives some real glimpses of the coming season with less hype, and also allows comparison of the two competitions various skills/areas needing improvement.

Riverview won both the 2nds and 1sts match against Waverley by a fair margin. A few individuals in the 1sts squad looking great, esp. Pritchard, Bowditch, Peterson, Fotukava, McGregor, and Freeman - many players were absent though due to athletics. Any other results?

Game were sloppy, as one would expect from a first hit out, but the individuals I mentioned looked great.

C'mon Newbie - Joey's "Hot tub and Moët"? You'd be hard pressed getting a snag and a beer - all the money goes into subsidising the boarding. The ground may be good to play on, but take a look at the pre war seating and grandstand. Scot's perhaps, but no Moët at Joeys.

Agree. I was told that more players were missing from the 1st's than the 2nd's. Waverley 1sts were actually going ok until McGregor came on and got a double or hat trick of tries. Without him I think Riverview would have still won though not by the end margin that occurred. I have seen Riverview play before and whilst lacking some of the slickness it was a good effort by them.

Waverley 2nds were never in the game. they really have to straighten the line of defence. It was all over the shop generally when Riverview were scoring. Waverley 2nds have a fair bit to work on and sadly it was a team effort at having a shocker of game.

There were a couple of standouts in the Riverview 2nds - don't know their names except the first was their number 8 and the second was the replacement number 3. 8 was a keen runner of the ball and has some good size about him. The replacement 3 came on about half time and is massive and powerfully built. Both the 8 and replacement 3 had standout games. 8's good off the mark and has a good read of where to be for the ball and so got plenty. the replacement 3 has got incredible power running with the ball making metres every time he ran. He is strong very strong. Both did plenty of work about the breakdown. Can't say I have seen either boy in previous years. Their backs played very well for their first game but my interest lies with the forwards.

Have to say I was shocked by the size, power and build of some of the lads in Riverview 1st and 2nd 's.

It runs the length of the field and its the best viewing in the GPS.

For any of those wondering about Shore's 1st XV this is what I've gathered from speaking to boys still there.

- Going off last years success (or complete lack thereof), the rugby program started in Term Four of last year (about two months earlier than last year) in order to prepare the boys better.
- They have 14 boys returning who played four or more games in the 1sts last year.
- They have approximately six boys (could be more if you include the 16's boys who played up) returning from last years 2nd XV.

Going off that, this is what I assume the 1st XV will look like, although I hear the side may be listed later this week.

1. Ben Hollebon - 1st XV 2013.
2. Olly Stump - 1st XV 2013.
3. Fergus Bragg - 2nd XV 2013 / Ryan Haskard - 2nd XV 2013 / Tom Holman - 2nd XV 2013.
4. Paddy Olver - 1st XV 2013 and GPS 3rds.
5. Lawson Muir - 1st XV 2013.
6. Henry Wrench - 1st XV 2013.
7. Jum Woodhil - 1st XV 2012 and 2013, alongside GPS 2nds 2013.
8. Nathan Lucas - 1st XV 2013, 2nd XV 2012.
9. Harry Emery - 1st XV 2013, 2nd XV 2012, GPS 3rds 2013.
10. Dom Naylor - 2nd XV 2013.

12. Charlie King - 1st XV 2013.
13. Toby Cooke - 1st XV 2013.

The back line may a bit off, but the forward pack (which I rate extremely highly) should be pretty much right. After this they still have Simon Litchfield (Halfback / Centre), James Doyle (2nd Row), Lachie Moore (2nd Row) and others returning from the 2nd XV.

If, touch wood, they are not plagued by injuries as they were in 2013, this should be a very competitive year. If, however, they are, perhaps Shore needs to look at the way they condition these boys in the preseason.

Great to hear some news from Shore. It's been a bit too View-centric on this thread lately (& I'm a View supporter). Perhaps the nerves of early favouritism are already showing.

The genesis of the demise of Shore's season last year seemed to be the numerous & unfortunate injuries suffered during the tournament at Southport. I wonder if Shore will be taking part in that tournament this year?
