Here's a sobering fact about Joeys Rugby.

There are only 16 year groups in Joeys history (since AAGPS rugby began) that never witnessed a 1XV premiership while attending the school.

These are the year groups of 1897'-1903', 1913'-1917 & 2013'-2017'. All boys who graduated in those years never saw a Joeys firsts prem.
Just 16 year groups.

On the other hand, if you were a Joeys graduate in 1986, every year you were at Joeys, they won the 1XV prem, 1981-1986. What a lucky year group.

Also, just found this. Scots is the most recurring team to put ends to Joeys hot streaks. Scots stopped Joeys in 1948 after SJC won from 1937-1947 (excluding 1940-1945 bc of WW2), again in 1959 after Joeys won 4 in a row, in 1987 after SJC went 6 in a row (see above) and then after the 1987 defeat SJC went another 5 in a row until Scots stopped them again in 1993. See below.

This just further solidify the fact that joeys is a true powerhouse within AAGPS rugby, thanks for the incredible stat Robert.

What is the opinion on NRL clubs paying for players to go and board at GPS schools? For example a boy from QLD who roosters have poached, but how will he train when he lives in QLD? Well he can attend Scots so he can train and play with Roosters, so Roosters pay for him to go there.

This isn't an import but what's the view on this?

Well Springy,

I am with your statement that you believe it is still a form of importing as I believe that the schools have a part. When a club signs a young player and they begin looking for schools, its usually the schools who put their hands up wanting that player. And I'm sure that the club will not pay a 50,000+ private school fee for a kid under 18.

Its a pillar within AAGPS that every school does not 'import' players but there are always speculations of it occurring. I think if the said player only trains with the Scots boys and pursue his NRL contract external at a Sydney based club then it in my eyes is fine. But if said player does play AAGPS rugby then heads should turn and inspect. It is a school competition that has existed since 1892 and has been competed in by boys who have been through every aspect of the school. A 'import' player crushes the dreams that year 7 boys have to play in the 1st XV and overall doesn't add or bring any school gusto to the crest.
