NSW AAGPS 2025

Frape, Reardon, Murdoch and Leahy are all high contenders for the flanker position. Maybe Frape being a versitile player as a second row and a flanker option could get him the spot. Murdoch speaks for himself by the way he plays on the field. If anyone got down to the Kings vs Shore u16A game at kings you'd understand what I am talking about. Leahy is a hard ball carying, tackling machine and pilfer demon on the pitch. Its going to be a big pre season for these boys. Hamilford (Wing) was arguably one of the players to watch for the 16A's, whenever he got the ball he looked like scoring. Again going to be a big pre-season for him to prove himself.
On second thought, I think Frape will get the #4 position over Sidwell, and yes I agree that the number 7 position is really up for grabs with multiple boys in contention.

Did anyone see this on the CAS forum. After they play their actual CAS and ISA competition, all those schools are playing an interschools competition that is based by skill grades/divisions. This is something I've wanted all 3 Sydney school competitions to create so that we can see different schools who usually wouldn't play each other match up (e.g. Scots vs Barker) as this would every season accurately determine who the best school in NSW is. This also enables the possibility of creating an annual fixture of best NSW school vs best QLD school, which each year could be played to crown 1 school as the best in Australia, and for this grand final fixture to be played as a curtain raiser for the wallabies. Yet even though those two competitions are creating this they still play their annual individual competitions, so this interschool competition is a positive extension that has no negative impacts on each individual competition. The AAGPS schools could very easily join this if the season was cut back from 10 rounds to 5 rounds. This would also very easily work as all 6 GPS schools join that interschools comp would mean that, there are 6 rounds, where for each GPS school plays the 3 ISA schools and the 3 CAS schools, meaning that any school from ISA, CAS or GPS won't repeat a game from their individual season by playing a team within their original competition.

I don't think though that this effects any GPS schools that play CAS or ISA schools during the initial 2 week trial period in May, as this doesn't change when their individual seasons start. I think this competition has been created because of how when the AAGPS starts their competition in the 3rd week of fixtures, for the next 5 weeks ISA and CAS have only each other to play until each of their single round competitions start, so they've just decided to create a competition out of when those schools have to play each other due to the unavailability to play GPS schools.

This was sent to Aloysius families so a very different format for CAS and ISA next year, interesting to see how it pans out. Personally I like home and away for the comp so hope it doesn’t change as it really shows who is the top team.

I too like the home and away format, both formats have their perks, but for the sake of this new inter school comp I wish we'd move to 5 rounds so we could join it (this would help show the dominance and superiority of AAGPS rugby). The 10 round version enables players to play away at every school and play at home against every school, which is important as it eliminates potential advantages for schools with 3 home games and 2 away games. I believe this was the case with joeys 2019 and 2022 (although those teams were strong enough to win if they had an opposite split of home and away games). Another example of how it shows a teams true capabilities is how Riverview hasn't won at Shore since 2020, and Shore hasn't won at Riverview since 2007.

Best of luck to all the Rugby boys who have chosen Rowing as their Summer sport.
The 1st Regatta of the season begins at SIRC tomorrow.
Echoing the words of Rudderless.

Will be interesting the early season indicators, and best of luck to all the rugby fellas out there on the course tommorow.

Sidwell has the versatility to also play any of the positions in the back row. My guess is that they can slot him in anywhere, and will use that to optimise the forward pack.

Any thoughts on Riverview and Scot’s likely team? 2025 year 12 group for View were the top team in 16’s (yes some played up but they were solid). Some new faces and injuries will always impact but have to think View with their 9 leading have a good squad.

One of the key things in rowing, coming off the back of the rugby season, is the different types of fitness. This early in the rowing season I'd expect they've done a tonne of steady state. Chuck a few starts and 500s and 1000s in and hope you can last the distance holding the canvas over the rest. The rugby boys will lose their (rowing) off-season fat and by the time HOR comes around will be lean and mean.

WISSY'S WISDOM

Ah... Tuesday!! Which can only mean one thing. It's time for ' Tuesday Man of the Week'. The boy, dare I say a man now, after the season he has just put on for us is none other than the notorious Bede ' Coca-Cola ' Clout. He's already a lock in the Shore 1st XV and let's be real, GPS 2s will be the bare minimum we see from the kid if he keeps it up.

Now if you have ever gone into the terrace on Monday arvo, you have likely spotted him holding court. He's as bloody loyal to that turf as he is to the game. Now if you want to talk about off-seasons this is one for the books. His regimen involves high-altitude training, in the snow-capped mountains, breathing in all that fresh snowy air. The kid is going to put on a show...

Only time will tell...

Yours in sporting reason, A sane observer
