bad break to his left thumb - bone protruding, pointing one way and the rest his of thumb going the other. Very nasty.

First collision of game, when he and O'Kane tackled the very solid Riverview ball catcher [Schmidt] with Greer also adding some weight. He signalled the bench, then played on since View were attacking, making at least two tackles and a ball carry when View turned it over. Hope he mends fast, a very fine player that Hugh Brokenthumb [excuse spellcheck error/pun].

Anyone got a review of Joeys vs View?

Oh my goodness. My head is somewhat fuzzy. Was a wonderful game. View punched on two runaway intercepts from Gibbs and the scored flattered them I thought. Joeys were rattled at 20-8 but hit back before half time. The ref did give some help (for a change) but by the end, I was starting to feel "under the weather" due to the night before and the warm ups at the HHH. Great reunion at Jacks, plenty of people and plenty of lunatics. I was positioned throughout the game in the northern end near the View old boys who were enjoying the banter between the View lunatics and SJC 5 and 10 year reunions. The fence broke and there were 10 security guards in front of the group and 6 police behind. Plenty of lads were escorted out due to D&D. Light weights! Plus it was a lovely break from my usual reporting of the results throughout the day. Only heard last night of Scots esacpe at the Hill. Hope some vision emerges soon.

I think these were the major ones.

1st XV- Joeys 34 Riverview 23
2nd XV- Joeys 21 Riverview 7
3rd XV- Joeys 17 Riverview 7
4th XV- Joeys 40 Riverview 7
5th XV- Joeys 15 Riverview 23
6th XV- Joeys 32 Riverview 7
7th XV- Joeys 76 Riverview 0

BIG GAME- 12th XV- Joeys 46 Riverview 10th 0

16A XV- Joeys 24 Riverview 5
15A XV- Joeys 40 Riverview 5
14A XV- Joeys 31 Riverview 24
13A XV- Joeys 24 Riverview 14

Once again, God has declared the Marists are the stronger faith than the lace Catholics of Lane Cove. Back to bed.

Scots were very lucky to get up yesterday and will need to do a lot of improving to beat joeys in 2 weeks time which shaping up to be the premiership deciding game.

The 1st XV game was a remarkably tough and Difficult game for Newington despite the score. Shore started with a dominance in both possession and territory, but failed to score as Newington's defence proved more than a Match for Shore's resolute efforts in attack.
I think that opening period was so important it defined Newington's win.
Shore threw everything including the kitchen sink at New.
An All Black-like line out trick 5m out - defused by New.
Dummy run-around from line out with only the paint in sight - defused by New.
Pick and go right up to and over the paint - Shore held up by sterling New defence. Three or four times!
New down to 14 men for 10 - defence adjusted.

After that it was all jet shoes amongst the New backs. Boy they have some strike weapons.

I hate to say it but I think Joey's will be too strong in 2 weeks time for Scots. The backline needs to click, yesterday they were way to pedestrian and telegraphed too many moves leading to the intercept try.
Scots were the better side but they certain gave the old boys having reunions a lots of heartstopping moments

Shore have had that little lineout move for a couple of years now. It's usually good for a try in the lower grades and in the age groups where there's no video analysis by coaches. I'm sure that the New coaches would have been aware of it and it sounds like they prepared for it.

Dunno about that. The well-fed View pigs used up a LOT of petrol in the first 10/15 minutes when they had the pill and bashed themselves up against the Joeys terriers; the tank had to run dry eventually. If it wasn't for the two gifted tries in the first half (aren't Joeys always the most generous hosts? :)) the score at oranges would've been much more comfortable. To my mind the Joeys dominance in the second half was perfectly predictable.

Sad to note Lee Grant wasn't at Hunters Hill yesterday, the first time I've experienced this.

And Joker, please note that lot from across the Lane Cove River AREN'T "lace (curtain) Catholics", they're Jesuits! ;)

Hello Formerflanker

I feel Shore should be proud of their performance despite the score. Hopefully, the experience against Newington will raise their Morale and be put to good use against Kings and View. As mentioned in my previous post about the match did not reflect Shore efforts, until the last minutes where their defence briefly contained the New backs.

On another note, Well done to Shore 15As in beating New who should win the this age competition. They and the 16As should give Shore supporters hope for the future.
