And good on them I say! Why can't we nogotiate our own tours aswell. Instead we rely on the IRB, an organisation that doesn't have our best interests in mind, to organise them for us.
New Zealand Rugby Union threatens to go it alone

Updated at 7:56am on 13 November 2008

The New Zealand Rugby Union is threatening to abandon the International Rugby Board's tour programme and simply arrange tours against top revenue-generating nations.

At an IRB meeting in London the major topic of discussion between the top 10 Test nations was over the June Test window and the quality of sides that northern hemisphere sides send south.

The likes of the New Zealand union are concerned second string sides are touring and one possible solution to make the tours more worthwhile that's being considered is a return to more traditional tours playing provincial sides.

Another option says rugby union CEO Steve Tew is to simply organise their own tours, which would generate more revenue.

Steve Tew says the current IRB future Test programme is set down until 2010 and from then on it's all up for negotiation.

Yep - much better from a revenue basis as individual tours can be negotiated. Especially good if you start at a modest sum of gate-takings and have a great tour - then you can bargain for more next time.

I believe JON came out and said much the same thing yesterday. I think the Kiwis and Aussies are going in with a united front on this issue.

ARU and NZRU should organise to send a ANZAC team up do a tour of Europe similar to the British Lions concept, that would definetly be a revenue generator

Doesn't work because of the Kiwis egos

I was wondering if I would be able to find info on this. Was at this match. Bit of a non-event as there were a few player pull outs close to the game. More baabaa than serious.

That's why there are so many Aussies.

Small problem - you need IRB clearance for a tour of any description. And IRB refs.

Bluffing when someone else has all the court cards is a dangerous habit, boys. Keep those stadia nice and clean now, you hear? ;)
