Re: The Curtain is Closing!

Mortlock is an adrenaline junkie. His morale is low after facing injury, ARU and fan criticism!

He will rise but I agree with the ARU, his contract shouldn't be extended past 2011!

Time for the youngsters to rise!

Staniforth, George Smith, and players who ever joined the Wallabies in the end of the 90's should not play past RWC 2011!

I wonder if his future / Rebels stuff has been playing on his mind as well this season.

Stirling has been a great player, but at 33 it's almost impossible for such a physical 13 to compete any more. Compare him with the debutante Rene Ranger and draw your own conclusions. 2011 is a bridge too far. The Rebels or Japan rightly beckon.

Surely the Rebels will look at it and consider him too much of a risk. Whilst a big name, he breaks a lot these days.

I would be very surprised if they signed him.

Maybe they are going to sign him for a small amount of money and set him up with a Uni scholarship or something.

He does seem mighty keen for his career in finance.

I think any Super franchise that sign him will also have a coaching clause in the contract in case he breaks, and dies, and we all sob

Long term, he is gone.

The Brumbies haven't fired yet and when they click, he will too. If Melbourne get him, they should be getting a lot of young talent around him to benifit from him. Thinking outside the square a bit, he still has a lot to contribute to Australian Rugby.

I could see them using him pretty much solely in at 12. A Nathan Grey style centre that McQueen liked (when he didn't have the brilliance of Timmy). Can't see him being able to keep up with the needs of a modern day out centre.

it's been really sad watching him over the last year, he's just not up to it anymore. i'd rather the brumbies play Andrew Smith there for the rest of the year. We can't hang onto the past, i.e like bernie and gregan
