Well...at the end of next year...

Western Force coach John Mitchell has confirmed he will step down after serving out his current Super 14 contract.
Mitchell, who coached New Zealand for two years before taking over at the Force in time for their debut season of 2006, is contracted to the Perth-based franchise until the end of the 2011 season but won't seek reappointment when that deal expires.

The Force are yet to win a game this year and are rooted to the bottom of the table with just one bonus point to show from five games.

But Mitchell's management, The Fordham Company, claim their client made the decision before the season started.

"Because of the circumstances of the Force's injury-plagued start to the year, John's focus recently has been squarely on the team and not on himself,'' the agency's chief executive John Fordham said in a statement.

"But because Vern (Force chief executive Vern Reid) has been keen for some time to have a chat about John's future plans, I decided this morning to be totally transparent with him.

"The Force now has ample time to recruit a replacement and John always wanted to give them the courtesy of a long window.''

Mitchell said he remained committed to seeing out his current contract.

"Admittedly, the club has had a tough time this year, having lost a number of current Wallabies and a marquee Springbok international through injury,'' Mitchell said.

"But I must say the resolve and commitment of the players remains particularly strong, as they comprehensively demonstrated in our gutsy narrow loss to the Waratahs last weekend.

"The Force has achieved a lot in the short time it's been competing in one of the toughest rugby tournaments in the world.''

Oh dear, poor Mitch. Has to get Fordo to preemptively shore up his position. If they finish last I can't imagine he'll be there in 2011.

I got the feeling that the WARU wasn't going to renew his contract either.

There's no way he'll be there coach in 2011, me thinks. I suspect he'll be up in the NH where they seemed to love him. I don't think he's as bad as most, but it's probably because as a player he was one of my faves, so I'm hugely biased.

He just didn't want to commit to the Force in 2011 as he fully expects to be the All Blacks coach that year.

they seem to have alot of recruitment to do for next year, if there going to keep him on for a dead year they really have to get the input of a successor before thats starts, not that they seem to have been active at all in the market.

Bullshit. He's gawn. Among the biggest committee think fuckups I've seen to sign him on again last time.

Western Force coach John Mitchell is adamant he'll see out the remainder of his Super 14 contract.

Mitchell stunned the Force on Wednesday when he announced he would not seek reappointment when his current deal expires at the end of 2011.

While Force chief executive Vern Reid left the door open for the former All Blacks coach to be replaced in time for the 2011 campaign, Mitchell said he wanted to remain at the helm until the end of next season.

"I'm committed totally to my contract right until the end," Mitchell said today in an at times testy press conference.

"That's been communicated right along and nothing will change.

"Looking forward to the weekend, big time.

"Looking forward to today's training session. Nothing changes.

"I'm no different to a player that comes out of contract in 2011. I've just been totally transparent on my future."

Meanwhile, the Force's horror run of injuries has continued, with scrumhalf Brett Sheehan (hamstring), hooker Ryan Tyrrell (neck) and Sam Wykes (quad) ruled out of Saturday's clash with the Bulls in Perth and winger Scott Staniforth (hip) in massive doubt.

Tyrrell's injury is the most serious, with the 26-year-old to undergo surgery on his neck which will keep him out for the remainder of the season.

I can understand Mitch wanting to stick around, he's put some good systems in place and the results are just around the corner. They're a fair chance to win a game next year, and he wants to be there to take the glory when that happens.

Nothing like a few wins to release the pressure - starting with the Bulls.
In fact if that little Saffa ref had not have had it in for them last week they might have snuck home. I thought he was correct in (most) of his rulings but tended to only look at 1 side.
