one of the top 3 locks I saw. Him Eales and Jonno. Personally, I'd probably have him just above Jonno and just under Eales.

One son of a .... when you watch him play your side. When he's not he is one hell of a great rugby player. His presence instils confidence in his side and his absence is sorely missed. Well done on the 100 Super Caps as well as the world cup the Super 14 title, the Currie Cup , etc.

Now that I think about it, hurry up and take on the coaching role for the Tahs before the 2011 RWC.

Certainly the SA rugby player of the decade (tho never recognized by those chasing the league dollars).

And a true gentleman of the game. Never makes a "hit" or lands a cheap shot. Just steals lineouts and displays courage around the park.
Bit of a contrast to his second row partner currently under (another) suspension.

Can't imagine to many people would hate him, he's a fair player & he will definitely go down as an all time great.

One of my favourite players going around.

Having Matfield and Botha is like having Eales and Johnno in the same team: perfect balance between skill / effectiveness and muscle / intimidation / injuries.

[Kiwi]What about the metal plate in his arm guard that he used to decapitate Byron Kelleher? Dirty Prick![/Kiwi]

The best South African loc to play the game. Which is a big statement, considering the great Frik du Preez played the same position.

A man with as long of a career as Victor is allowed one brain fart. Happens to everyone.

Nobody's perfect, Matfield is close but not quite there.

It was Kelleher. That is a mitigating circumstance.

Now, I like Matfield as much as the next bloke, but let's not go nuts.

EDIT: Saw the video was up there already after Scarfman edited this

The incident doesn't diminish my view of him one bit though, still a great player, and a pretty magnaminous person from all accounts. Seems to fit right in with the GAGR view of the rugby community.

Pictures of him and his stylish stubble make me think he would wear shitloads of cologne.

And just where are his shortfalls? Can't imagine a Super 14 team CEO that doesn't dream of his signature.
