12 hours, 5 games on the box. Started at 4.30 pm my time and finished at 4.00 am.
First up the Wallabies. Good enough season opener, no more than that.
Next replay of Scotland and Samoa at U20 World Championship. Scotland set piece technically OK but the whole team was clueless in attack. Samoans' set piece very mediocre and they made very hard work (drop goal at 81 minutes) of putting away very ordinary opposition. England's 8 will monster both to rack up bonus point wins.
Then replay of U20 England and Japan. England mightily impressive. Monster, very well drilled pack. Where did they get those massive backs who can really run the ball? Japan - nothing ever changes, does it, except when a Mark Ella gets involved in the coaching.
The Golden Lions and the EEELs followed. Surprisingly good contest. If SARU allowed the S14 teams to play their Springbok squad members, the EEELs would be lucky to go home with a 50:50 record. Well played, the REAL Lions, I feel for you in your unlucky loss. Special note for Lindommer - you still reckon Stu Dickinson suffers from over-knowing the law book and not empathising with players? If so, take a look at Mr Barnes.
Finally, Perpignan and Clermont. Perpignan simply out-enthused their opponents. A good contest with ferocious forward exchanges. Much faster than most T14 games I have seen ths year. The golden Brock James had a very mixed game. I presume Mario Ledesma is in a shrink ward this morning. Clermont now 0/10 from finals appearances - must be a world record for team sports?
