Kaplan - Can we petition to ensure he never referees an Australian side again?

Kaplan is THE only referee I detest seeing on the field.

He will manage at least one petulant "You will respect my authority" moment per game.

In tonight's game he managed to:-

1) miss forward passes
2) contribute massively to yet another scrum disaster where neither side knew what was going on, penlise side for earily engagement when to my ear he had clearly begun the "engage" call - so obviously a team must wait for the end of the word which he may then decide to draw out like some Tibooburra drover.
3) he even made up new laws tonight - a player who fall to the ground either in contact or not and who is NOT tackled must release the ball.
4) found a way to award a penalty for an incident that didn't even amount to a push and shove. I still cannot understand what the penalty was for, no punches were thrown. At most I think there were some questions of parentage uttered.

Anybody would think the Waratahs were playing. Maybe he still had the shits that he couldn't red card a Waratah player last week or manage to ensure they lost.

But Gnostic. He helped an Aussie team win tonight? :)

He did lose the plot tonight. That much was evident.

missed the forward
scrums had no control

The Brumbies were regularly offside too.

Gnostic,

Kraplan is much loved by the South Africans and they have a lot of say in the referees. He was truly awful tonight but I predict the assessors will give him at least a pass and probably a credit.

I will sign the petition. What a crock of shit!

Though really, the Brumbies played like they turned up expecting to stroll through the Rebels. They should blame themselves for giving Kaplan the opportunity to fuck them over.

That's the bit I don't get, they seriously think he's the shizz.

Btw, the Aussie team he loves to shaft after the Waratahs is the Brumbies

Both the AR and Kraplan were in good position to see the forward pass. Kraplan didn't fuck the Brumbies over he just squared them up for his earlier mistake. Add in the deliberate knockdown when the Rebels were away.... and I don't think the result was altogether unfair. What was totally unacceptable was the overall level of performance, which was dire.

to prove my point, the next tweet I received after making my post above:

From @04chrisyearsley to @Matt_Gagger he is one of the best, you don't know what you talking about

(I asked why Kaplan was an international ref earlier)

Not a big fan either but the number 3 point was right I thought. The tackler had a hand on him once he was on the ground and then let go. He had to release the ball.

doesn't sound like the definition of "held in the tackle" to me

Over the past 2 years Dickinson has been consistently way better than Kaplan. It was mainly Paddy O'Brien who didn't like him when the poor old Kiwis got stuffed in the scrum by Italy. ;)

If we want to see quick ball the attacker has to be deemed tackled if someone is holding them when they hit the ground

If that isn't "the way it works" we will be complaining that the defender is slowing down the play as he is not releasing quickly enough (because if he does quickly release, the prick will scamper away again).

The tackler is supposed to release immediately and the attacker has to play the ball.

We had the same shit with last year with players crawling along the ground after being tackled and Hoiles getting up after being tackled last year.

The attacker has to play his part if we want to see clean quick ball.

Really, the sheer ignorance of people on this site as to the laws of rugby is astounding.
Kaplan was 100% correct in 'that' tackle ruling
DEFINITIONS
A tackle occurs when the ball carrier is held by one or more opponents and is
brought to ground..

There is NO requirement for the tackled player to be continually held AFTER he has been brought to ground.15.3 BROUGHT TO THE GROUND DEFINED
(a) If the ball carrier has one knee or both knees on the ground, that player has been ‘brought

possession of it, and must try to make the ball available immediately so that play can continue.
Sanction: Penalty kick

or move away from it at once.
(b) If the ball carrier is sitting on the ground, or

How about ypou all do a full refereeing course (in addition to the Smart Rugby) because it is clearly evident that there are not many of you who have a freekin clue as to the laws of the game.
