the brisbane league consortium has said they have talked to cooper, sonny bill, JOC (James O'Connor) and just about every australian league player, its just attention seeking at this stage to stay in the headlines and create a sense of power. Wouldnt read to much into it they probably wont know if there in or not till early next year anyway.

They will talk to anyone who gives the publicity and if the AFL model is used, buy someone early to increase the publicity

Don't put it past JOC (James O'Connor)'s managers contacting the consortium and leaking the story.

Getting tired of these games played by JOC (James O'Connor)'s manager.

The ARU should play his bluff.

The Canberra Times is claiming it is down to the Force and Brumbies for next year:

I am so over this. JOC (James O'Connor) (via his management) is starting to come off as a bit of a mercenary tool.

Jimmy, you are going to play rugby in Oz next year. You know it and we know it. Just fucking sign somewhere so we can all get on with our lives.

Drag this out much longer and we are going to start planning our supporting activities for next year without you. We have a roster to fill as well, you know.....

This just in!

O'Connor contacted by Perth Glory

The Herald Sun can reveal O'Connor's management has held informal talks with the prospective A-League franchise in a sign the 20-year-old Western Force phenomenon could be lost to rugby union.

The franchise cannot reasonably afford O'Connor plus other rugby targets Cooper and All Blacks star Sonny Bill Williams, but the loss of the Western Force sensation would be damaging for the ARU.

The pressure valve for Australian rugby is the reality that Perth Glory will lose their marquee signing Robbie Fowler before 2013, if at all, depending on the A-League's expansion plan under the yet-to-be-installed Independent Commission.

But, with Cooper having last week signed only a 12-month extension and O'Connor a fresh target, the ARU could eventually confront losing one or both of their gifted backline stars to the Hyundai A-League.

Stories are not being spread by his management but journos looking for an angle that doesnt exist. The kid is just taking his time on what he sees as a big decision I believe.

Yep, I'm sure JO'C sits down after training and says "I should spread some rumors about what club I'm going to to annoy the fans...".

No one is forcing you to read the articles, Daz.

daz said "via his management" i think thats a fair call at this point.

Settle petal.

I don't believe JOC (James O'Connor) says that at all. I do believe that his management is shopping him around for the best deal. Fair enough and good luck to them, but I believe that this kind of shopping and bargaining does not paint JOC (James O'Connor) in the best light. Add to this the fact that we are told every week that a decision is forthcoming. After a while, it is like the boy who cried wolf, and people stop listening. My comment, therefore, was more about telling JOC (James O'Connor)'s people to stop crying wolf.

I am comparing the JOC (James O'Connor) saga (and the QC (Quade Cooper) saga) to the other side of the ditch. How about these 7 words to JOC (James O'Connor)'s people: Dan. Carter. Richie. McCaw. Re-signing. Without. Fuss.

I also believe that the media (and people like us) pick up and run with that.

I read the article for the same reason you read my post. Because it was about a topic that we have some interest in, and opinion about.

Just like everyone else, getting a little tired of this crap being in the news, im over it. Tell us if they sign or if they're heading somewhere else. Please don't speculate about where they 'might' be going......

I have real reservations that many of the wallabies are going to head off to other codes or leagues untill after the Lions tour in 2013. They'd be crazy to....

I think we can safely say though, that most player managers (esp Quades) are publicity hunting maggots........

I live in Canada, where we don't have two sports so similar that our pro athlete's can switch back and forth. But I have to say, the Australian media is OBSESSED with union players and the slight chance they might move over to league. It's as if someone whispers at the bus stop or drunk in the pub about a player making a switch, and BAM! the media runs with it. They need to just stop with it, it's getting tired and annoying.

Actually, you raise an interesting point.

I think the last guy to switch codes in NZ was maybe Marc Ellis? There doesn't seem to be an iterest in getting players to switch back home.

I thought the Warriors would have made a play for Weepu when he came off contract a year or two ago (especially when he missed the RWC squad) but he signed back up with the NZRFU without much fuss.
