Sanchez speaks

Luke Burgess could be another to see less game-time midweek with first choice halfback Will Genia being monitored with a rib injury.

Genia was replaced early in the second half at Twickenham but medical staff haven't seen the need for an X-ray, believing it is a cartilage problem or bone bruising and pain management will be the issue.

He was due for a light day on Monday, with the midweek team to train.

Genia is widely considered a Wallabies captain-in-waiting and the No.9 was scathing of Australia's performance in the record loss to the old enemy.

"It sucked," he said.

"We were terrible, that's the bottom line.

"To be brutally honest, we were pretty poor in everything we did."

Genia said the Wallabies had tried to go wide without doing the hard work first.

"We were getting a lot of momentum going directly through them and then when we tried to go wide we just were very lateral," he said.

"We probably, in hindsight, should have just kept going through them because we were making easy metres."

I wonder what Sanchez thinks about the early penalty kick decisions... "Shithouse" would be my guess.

I presume he is talking about last Saturday's game.

He'll be the skipper within 3 years is my guess... and I'm not from QLD.

He just has to be careful not to be displaced by Burgess. Hopefully his current poor form, compared to last year, is due to injury or the second year yips.

This is the kind of language we would like to hear... because it seems to describe what we saw with our own eyes... it is probably more difficult for Rocky and Robbie to use this kind of language because of their leadership and PR roles... what they say behind closed doors may be entirely different... and match Sanchez' comments more closely...

The stupid thing is that we saw a passage of play very early in the second half where they did roll forwards through pick and drives and runners one-two passes from the ruck, despite it seeming to be slow motion, right up until Genia darted for the line, turned over and the wallaby defense managed to barely a hand on the poms on the way from their try line to ours.

For a couple of minutes they were doing the simple things well and putting in the required work rather than trying for immediate brilliance in the face of the rush defense.

I'm sure that has stuck in his mind and he has a big 'if only I had' in his head.

Genia's getting a hard time about his form & he probably isn't playing quite as well as this time last year, but I think part of the reason is that defences know more about him this year. Last year defences were letting him run sideways from rucks waiting for him to pass & he was taking advantage of any gaps that appeared, but they're not leaving the same holes for him this year. He's been getting criticised lately for taking sideways steps from rucks, but last year he was sometimes getting opportunities from taking those steps.

Having said that, I do think Burgess has looked better this year. I actually think Burgess & Cooper have looked good together at times. I don't know if it's Burgess' pass or Cooper's communication or positioning, but Cooper seems to get the ball in better positions than Giteau used to. Cooper may even be just a little better at adjusting to suit the pass on the fly & he does have good hands.

Genia, to me, is having some second year syndrome and it doesn't help that he doesn't look fully fit

On Cooper's communication or positioning, I like Bob Dwyer's tweet from a while ago "Quite a lot of "dropped" ball comes from poor positional play in support, which causes a difficult pass, to throw or to catch."

Hear, hear. Whatever physical ailment's troubling him it's affected his play (for the Wallabies) all year. I was thinking the last two Saturdays Genia's passing is getting worse while Burgess's is getting better. It's not all Cooper's fault.

That silly inside ball, made Me yell at the TV.
Other than that Burgess played OK. That silly pass from him was at the end of a passage of play where the wallabies looked like they wanted to play hot potato, so maybe He was just trying to fit in.
I would be interested to see how His enthusiasm would last if He made the run on side. He does seem to have a positive, uplifting type effect coming off the bench in the last 15 or so minutes, and His passing is better this year.

I actually thought Genia played a pretty good game against England apart from that one dodgy decision that led to an England try - in retrospect it was not a bad decision because if we were going to win the game we needed to score tries and at least he showed some leadership to make things happen. Unlucky ref call and bad forward support and the rest is history. He has a very good defensive game, didn't miss any tackles unlike Burgess. If he ran the ball himself all the time our star studded backline wouldn't get any ball. I honestly believe he is trying hard to be Quade Coopers foil - at the same time he needs Quade Cooper to be on top of every part of his game (tackling) in order to have the same impact he did in the Super 14.

His passing is better this year.

Probably easier passing to Cooper than Gits, who spends forever getting deep at 1st receiver then runs a line at the openside corner flag, diagonally away from the halfback. In fact Burgess plays really well with Cooper, who has superb hands and positions himself very well to receive the ball in motion. I just like Burgess to underplay his hand.
