REGARDING TECHNICAL PROBLEMS

From everyone at G&GR, I apologise sincerely for the break in transmission. The problem is a simple one, but unfortunately it involves a part of the system that only Moses has access to, and he is not contactable at the moment. Obviously, we'll need to make some changes to our security access so that a backup techie (probably me) can fix problems like this. That's my fault.

Please hang in there with us, I'm sure we'll get on top of it shortly. We have a few good threads lined up for when we return, including the Scarf Awards for 2009. Who will win the Gold Scarf for Poster of the Year? Not me, obviously.

Thanks again for your patience, I'll report back here when I know something.

Cheers,
Scarf

Re: GAGR Downtime

I'm having a look at it now, had a shot from Harare but it was quite involved.

Re: GAGR Downtime

Should be all fixed now, please let me know if there are any further issues.

The required copyrite message ( Powered by SMF 1.1.8 | SMF © 2006-2008, Simple Machines LLC ) is, and has always been in the footer as required. I'm a big believer in open source initiatives such as smf, and am more than happy to give credit where it's due.

For those who are interested the issue was caused by our host moving us onto a different server, which happened to be at the same time I was on holiday in the highly connected republic of Zimbabwe. Such a change would usually normally be transparent, however our theme's folder was hard coded to look at the server path, and as such could no longer find the footer files (hence the copyrite message) or any other include files needed to make the site tick.

I've recoded the theme's folder to a "relative path" so if they move us again it should be seamless. They generally don't move us more than once a year, it's about managing capacity for them and something they're well within their rights to do.

Glad to be back on deck. Now if I only understood any of what Moses just wrote!!
Sorry bout that.

Our host moved our site from one computer to a different computer, but we were still looking on the old one for our files.

Thanks Moses. Both for getting us de-bugged, and the explanation. I am, unfortunately, familiar with being moved from server to server - every time the IT guys who run our little office system do something with our servers, something hits the fan.
Good trip?

I didn't realise you were into extreme sports.

Yeah, just got back after 19 days. Spent half the time in Harare, Kariba, Joburg, Durban and Eshowe. Would have given Paarl a call if we'd headed down south but no time for that this trip, wedding was in Harare.

lately when i go to the front page it takes me back to the 22nd and the new articles aren't there. i can get to the new articles by either link or the admin page. i've tried clearing cache and cookies and doesn't appear to fix it. anyone else having this problem? obviously it's not that way for everyone cuz there are views and comments for the new articles. is this only on my end?

Is this the front page of the blog or forum? That's a strange one, try a Ctrl+F5 to force a full refresh..

Interesting.....did it to me on a public computer in France, but not back home in London.

A caching problem?

My avatar is from about 3 months ago. I don't mind, just pointing it out. Time for a change, anyway.
