A one hour highlights package is probably a good start, all the tries and excitement, less of the endless pick and go moments may interest the no aficionado.

The Premier League highlights show is what got me somewhat interested in football

Super 15 free-to-air content proved to be a contentious issue in Australian TV broadcasting rights negotiations, with Channel 10/One interested in Test rights but only if they could also buy the rights to a weekly live Super match.

The Ten offer was rejected, with Foxsports keen to protect its rights as the exclusive broadcaster for Super rugby. News Limited, publisher of The Daily Telegraph, owns half of Foxsports and also held the broadcasting rights for rugby in Australia and New Zealand.

Live Super 15 on Ten, more likely One. Would have been ace. That's all I'm saying.

Yeah I have to agree. Although the ARU need the money. One HD showing replay's of Super 14 and live S15 matches would have been ace for Rugby in Australia. A shame really.

Expect a timeslot of Monday night 10.30pm and most weeks pushed to 10.45 because the useless fuckers can;t run their shows on time.

I shudder to think who Nine will employ as commentators. Looking at their coverage of League and other sports it'll be clowns like Sam Scott-Young and Campo.

You can't help but think that Nine and News both have a strong vested in interest in keeping S15 rugby off free to air given their respective investments in NRL and foxtel. I have the feeling that this latest agreement means that future free to air coverage is even less likely now than in the past.

Anyway, 7 used to have a 1hr S12 highlights show many moons ago and I thought it was great. The best part is that there is little time for commentary so the hosts don't really matter.

ive heard word of this for a while, the going timeslot being discussed is 3pm on sunday as a lead in to the afternoons league game, although this sounds stupid, its a great spot for rugby as quite a few league types are going to tune in ten minutes early and see a video package of plays of the round etc and maybe get interested in checking it out.

Might catch some people that tune in for The Sunday Footy Show/The Sunday Roast too, but I think it doesn't follow on closely enough.

the afternoon league outrates the morning shows by alot, they usually show a sports related program as a lead in to the afternoon match, so it makes alot of sense, i also hear foxsports will actually be producing the program and selling it on, so kearns and co might well be the hosts.

“The footprint for Super Rugby will extend across Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne and Perth. Every match will be shown live on Fox Sports and beneath Super Rugby we have Premier Rugby in Sydney and Brisbane being telecast by the national broadcaster.

can someone explain this comment to me?
Surely they arent saying that the Shute Shield and QLD Premier Grade is going to be getting broadcast as part of the package?

well the national broadcaster is ABC.

Shute Shield is already on it. The Briso club rugby isn't. So perhaps it will???

SUPER 14 rugby will return to free-to-air TV on Channel 9 next year as part of a rich new broadcasting deal to be announced by the Australian Rugby Union this morning.
Solid start by Iain Payten, two mistakes in the opening stanza. Super 15 will be on FTA next year, and Super 12 was the last product shown on FTA IIRR

The allure of Bledisloe Cups and the 2013 British and Irish Lions tour was a selling point, but not enough for Seven to recommit after several years of poor ratings.
I'm guessing that poor ratings are due to many rugby fans already having Fox as that's the only way to see live Super Rugby. I know when I watch Test rugby if I have a choice of the Foxtel coverage, or Channel 7 squeezing in ads during play I'll switch to Fox every time.

i remember when the QLD premier grade used to be broadcast on ABC as well, however that was a cost that the QRU cut. I would be happy to see it broadcast on the ABC again, maybe even if foxtel took a match of the round compeitition from both Sydney and Brisbane and broadcast that.

on top of the general decline in interest for the Wallabies over the past 5 or so years, it has also been magnified at a FTA ratings level by a increasing percentage of the population having foxtel.

Like you said, why would i watch 7 which is full of ad's and breaks, when i can watch foxtel with no real breaks and IMO better commentators

Fox does "Super 14 Extra Time" each Monday night, I assume the FTA will be a bastardization of that

They'll probably just sell that to 9 or something.

the going word is in fox that it will be like the premier league soccer show, focus on two important games with 15 minut highlight package of each (both featuring aussie teams) then ten minute rap of everything else and a news and views type 5 minutes, its meant to be a totally new jazzed up show for FTA

Yes, I am hoping that the QRU starts doing the one weekly game again shown on tv on Saturday afternoons. Hoping but doubting.
