Just a thought from the Rebels v Force game on Sunday...

The Rebels missed two kicks into touch from penalties in the second half. Had they made at least one of these, they may have scored again and put the game of our the Force's reach. However, they were greasy and didn't make the distance. IMO, this is a fundamental skill error with a potentially enormous impact on a game. Conversely, some kickers, Berrick Barnes in particular, struggle to get any great distance on their kicks into touch from a penalty.

What is going on at training at the Super Rugby and club levels? What are the directives for kicking for touch? Is it distance orzo surety of getting the throw into the lineout? Is kicking adequately taught and practiced? Having recently attended a Level 1 coaching course, I was amazed at the way kicking was taught, especially being in Victoria where kicking is very much THE skill of the dominant football code here.

Mike Harris has had the same trouble on a few occasions this year. It's very frustrating to see.
