FORMER Illawarra junior representative Dan Palmer has re-signed with the NSW Waratahs for three years.
Palmer, who grew up at Barrack Heights, debuted with the Waratahs off the bench in this season's Super 14 win over the Highlanders.
The Southern Districts prop was also part of the Waratahs squad for their round-13 game against the Stormers in Cape Town, South Africa, in May.
"Finding 19-year-old props who can handle Super 14 football is a rarity and we're sure over the next three years Dan will develop into one of the premier props in Australian rugby," NSWRU chief executive officer Jim Lestrange said after the contract signing.
Palmer is in Wales with the Australian under 20 side for the junior world championships and has been named in the starting XV for their opening match against Canada.
The son of former Vikings and NSW enforcer Peter Palmer, he followed the traditional pathway through to senior representative football, earning selection in the Australian Schools A side in 2005 and the Australian Schools team in 2006.
He then progressed to the national under 19 team, playing in last year's under 19 world championships.
Palmer will be part of a strong front-row rotation with the Waratahs and can count on receiving plenty of guidance from fellow props Matt Dunning, Benn Robinson and Al Baxter.
