Can somebody please supply any possible reason (as logic, not as motive) why Waratahs are recruiting this player?

To replace Sam Norton Knight who is going overseas.

Because he's one of the few backs in the S14 proven to be capable of breaking a defensive line.

The opposition's, or his own?

That's reason as motive, not as logic.

What the Waratahs have:
  • 2 international quality outside backs not getting any pill
A handfull of inside backs not at S14 quality
What the Waratahs buy: another international outside back

There is no logic

If selection and recruitment is one of the most important things a coach can do, what does this say?

Hey Spookie, how about using your influence at the Brumbies to get them to put one over the Tahs by snatching Mitchel from under their noses? After all, you need a fullback now that Gerrard's gone.

Here Tahs, have a fullback that can't kick. Unlucky.

While I think the guy is a great winger, I can't recall a game I've watched him play at 15 where I haven't groaned everytime he has gone to kick. His running game and strength in the tackle has improved dramatically over the last three years, but he can become a burden at 15. He can't find touch, and his awareness of the opposition back three is poor that most of kicks land right in their hands.

I hope he stipulated in his contract that he was to be given the no.15 jersey.

Now I hope J.Mitchell gives Shep the fullback spot for the last four games.

yeah im rather miffed by this signing as well, it just doesnt make much sense.

Mitchell left the Reds because of money and the chance to play fullback, which from game1 in 2007 proved to be a laughable subject, now he is leaving the force for the waratahs to play fullback.

I might understand this move if NSW were a attacking side, but they play safety-first percentage football, which relies on a fullback with good defence and excellent kicking skills.... both of which mitchell is lacking!

How will the other outside backs at NSW take this, Ratu was supposed to be Lomu reincarnated, what ever happened to that dream..

Biff, there are not enough latte drinkers in Canberra to keep Mitchell happy.
