Knox vs aloys was a game of two halfs. In the first half aloys played with discipline and structure, and really took it to Knox making it look like an upset was possible. Aloys spent a long period of time inside Knox's 22, however were only rewarded by a single try (similar to last week at barker where aloys had plenty of opportunities but couldn't convert them). Where as Knox's scored two tries in the first half despite spending much less time in the aloys red zone. However the second half was a different story with Knox's big forward pack crippling the aloys defence where most of tries came from in a 2nd half blowout. Knox played with structure in the second half and had a lot of front foot ball, with thier 9 giving good ball to the forwards with the 2 crossing 3 times in a great performance. With the exception of the Knox 13 and 9 I didn't the think their backs were that flashy. For aloys, they showed large potential in the first twenty minutes. In the forwards Nolan the second rower did well in the lineout and scored a good try, and the 7 made numerous great tackles and pilfers. I feel aloys should get a win next week up against Waverley, and if they can play with consistency for a full game, I imagine they will get a couple more.

Agreed - Halliday also made an impact from the bench

Agree about Halliday. I believe it was he first match back from injury, played a Stella game in the seconds, and nearly scored a try on his first touch in the first, running 10 meters of a good set piece of a lineout. I imagine he will receive a call up to the first this week.

I attended the Knox game and agree Knox 13 (Watson) was outstanding in attack. Needs to work on ball distribution however. I would say Vevers is better defensively which could be an asset if he is to cover Hutchinson for GPS (if Hutchinson plays 13 that is).

Who was vevers replacement yesterday? (Yellow headgear) He took a spectacular leap off one of the kickoffs.

Aloys 11 slotted into 13 to replace Vevers. Then Alec diamond (yellow headgear) came on to fill the wing. I agree it was a great take hands outstretched.

He is a funny case - someone told me he is a very good athlete but doesn't look like he runs as fast as he can on the field

There were a couple of good takes from kicks. the kick-offs were quite well contested. The Knox 6 did well with a couple of good takes from the kick-offs.

I watched Bosch play in the 16s and 1s yesterday...he seemed pretty ordinary. Despite having a strong boot in the 16s and a half decent pass playing 9 for the ones, there was the much to prove to the CAS, let alone north harbour selectors. The only thing he has got going for him is a hefty pack and a quick, well-drilled backline, which he can slot into.
On a one on one basis with Bosch against slaven, I would rate slaven any day of the week. The Aloysius' 16s have been playing some good footy of late, but they lack confidence up front, they need to take a lesson from slaven's book and play good, hard, running rugby and they can dominate any team.

Bosch vs Slaven is an interesting debate. I also managed to watch this encounter and think in terms of natural talent Slaven will go onto become a better footballer than Bosch but at this stage in time size makes Bosch an appealing candidate for selectors

Bosch has a fantastic kicking game, is relatively fast and strong on the ball

Slaven is arguably faster and has a better step, is smaller at this stage and but definitely a better defender. Slaven tackles like he doesn't care for his life and hits the line hard if he has too - a tough nut.

For rep I would take both of them and perhaps play Bosch at 13 or vice versa - but you cant have one miss out due to the other taking his spot

Also remember Slaven has played 12,13, 9 and on the wing and is doing well for someone in his first year at full back - definitely a great utility option

Saw 4 games of rugby at Queens Park yesterday and have to say an unfortunate trend emerged. Waverley teams started out playing competitive rugby, but once they fell behind on the scoreboard were more interested in the fight than the game. Numerous head high tackles and other foul play. The Waverley boys in the stand loudly cheered every high tackle and dust up.

Absolute low point was just into the second half of the 2nds match - Waverley 4 was reported by both touch judges and given a red card (punching and possible head butt). As he walked off the Waverley boys in the stand yelled out 3 cheers for "name" (I won't name the player) and proceeded with the 3 cheers and applause. The coach did not speak to the player about letting the side down etc.

This crowd behavior and the terrible playing discipline suggest . well i'm not sure what. But schoolboy rugby has a particular code that was not evident yesterday. This was not a few isolated incidents, it was a clear pattern of behavior.

On a positive note i thought the referees did an excellent job under difficult conditions and i congratulate Waverley on supplying accredited touch judges for so many games (something Barker regularly fails at).

I disagree there was a 'trend' with the Waverley teams yesterday. 'Numerous head high tackles and other foul play' is an exaggeration and gives a wrong impression. Barker were aggressive and overly aggressive at times in the 1sts and 2nds, which you'd expect, and the Waverley boys reacted. It wasn't as if all the fighting and foul play were instigated by Waverley players.

You're right to a certain extent but your assessment is exaggerated and a dramatised version of the truth. And how do you know the coaches didn't speak to the player who was sent off for punching?
