Wickus van Heerden playing lock? Thought he was a flanker?

Hope they like the cold weather.. about minus 3 here at the moment, after a snow storm through the day. Suppose to get colder over the weekend.

Brumbies team to be named later today.
They've had a very disrupted week at training - only got home from RSA on Tuesday morning and will only get about one and a half training sessions before the game.

Giteau will be playing his 100th game and it will be interesting to see if he starts at 10 or will they throw Christian to the Lions after his MOM performance last week?

I have been lurking for a while and thought I'd put up a post to let you know that if you're going to the game there's a reason to turn up early:

The ACT Veterans Rugby club is playing the Royal Australian Navy Old Salts in a charity fundraising match as a curtain raiser to the Brumbies v Lions match at Canberra Stadium on Saturday 14 May 2011. The match will be for the iPAMM Cup, sponsored by the Queanbeyan-based Server Racks Australia, with a kick-off at 5:30pm.

The iPAMM Cup will be another hard-fought match for the customary 9-all draw and will raise funds for charities including the George Gregan Foundation and Legacy. The ACT Veterans Rugby club has raised over $100,000 in the past six years for a range of charities, including Snowy Hydro SouthCare and Clare Holland House.

Be sure to get to Canberra Stadium early to see a feast of running rugby as Canberra’s over-35s take on the best of the Navy’s old boys, and stay to see the ACT Veterans development squad (also known as the Brumbies) take on the men from the Highveld.

Dan Palmer has a fitness today on his injured foot. Henry Speight returns from injury and Peter Kimlin retains his starting spot after showing good form on the tour.

Chisholm dropped?

Yikes... he's not lighting the world on fire, but he's been a lot better than Hand...

Would much prefer to see AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) or McCabe at outside centre...

The Valentine/Giteau halves combination guarantees a dour Brumbies performance...

Based solely on those selections they could actually lose this match...

Chiz may have a lite injury, the bench will do, he can make an impact in the second half. Lions have some large units, Gits will run them around.

Classic!

Hard to understand the Brumbies selectors. Some decisions (like AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)) seem to say they have given up on this season and are experimenting for next year. But then they continue to select Valentine and not give White a chance. White needs to move franchises, people at Brumbyland obviously don't rate him at all.

The team selected seems to indicate that Owen is now in front of Maafu. Sounds like Big M will be tapped on the shoulder next year, he will be no. 4 THP. Hand over Chisholm must be an injury, Chis has been poor to occasionally fair but Hand has been totally unsighted. Phibbs played well in SA and has been rewarded by being benched for Valentine, who has been awful this year. A team where favourites rather than form influences selection will never go well.

I do like the look of the backrow.

Hard to see on the performance in SA Hand forcing his way past Chisholm not obvious form decision also it would appear that if Giteau starts at 10 than Valentine starts at 9. IMO opinion Phibbs defence in SA was poor and he appears to very deliberate in his play at the back of the ruck and is slow around the park. I do agree with your comments on halback Nic White whose form with Eastwood in Shute Shield (undefeated) has been impressive earning big wraps, his service to the backs sees their wing/fullback as teams leading tryscorers. Hard to understand as the only half contracted for next year why he is not being given chance for Jake White to see him perform at this level

There are forwards at the Brumbies who would form a better halves partnership...

In fact they should swap the forwards and the backs around as Valentine loves to spend so much time in the rucks, and Huia Edmonds posseses a superior kicking game...
