ACT Brumbies coach Stephen Larkham is hoping the fact he's been instructed to rest Ryan Lonergan is a sign he is nearing a breakthrough Test appearance.

Lonergan and Luke Reimer will miss Friday’s match against the Highlanders. The pair is among a select group of managed players who can not play more than six games in a row, barring extreme circumstances, with the Wallabies' upcoming Test season in mind.

Some nice changes on the bench this week for the Brumbies. Liam Bowron, Rhys Van Nek, Tuaina Taii Tualima, Klayton Thorn will be bring some freshness into the game. Some quality players here who haven't had much of a chance this season. Seems to be some frustration in Brumby camp though, the extra tough draw to start the year + some controversy last week has added frustration to fatigue in the squad, going off some of the comments this week from Larkham, Lonergan, Pollard they think this weeks game is a critical piece in their season. Looking at the rest of the draw, top 4 is definitely still within reach and is helped by the fact that the Blues and Canes have fallen off a cliff this year. Likely a Top 4 of Chiefs, Crusaders, Reds, Brumbies? Tough for the Aussie teams to get into a final though if both the Reds and Brumbies are playing in NZ for the Semis...

Brums would have liked another score after that 22 entry but a decent half nonetheless. Feels like they should have the class and depth to get home in the second half but its a bit close for confort so far. 22 defence is clearly improving, lacking a bit of punch in attack though.
