Michael Lipman is a fan, don't recall seeing Meyer Bosman slowing down any more ball that night.

37 seconds.

As long as I and most others here would love to see it brought back, think it has pretty much gone the way of the dodo. Mum's and Dad's fearing for little Johnny's safety and tv look. The refs need to clamp down harder on the breakdown, even more so than last year with yellow cards early and often for repeat offenders and players deliberately slowing down opposition ball, attackers bridging and the tackled player not releasing when swamped in his own half.

Bah, end of the day if the ball isnt coming out and the ball needs to be rucked out the ref should be blowing a scrum. Players should forklift them off the ball to show the ref they are in the way for more chance of getting a penalty. I like rucking but hey would take a penalty over teaching someone a lesson.

Aussie D - when I went through schoolboy rugby rucking was outlawed in under 19 - could we not separate the kids aws from the pros?

I got rucked in under age rugby too, so the rule must have changed. I'm totally in favour of it, BTW. Players lying all over the ball does more damage to the game than the occasional rake mark on your back. Stomping or going near the head is verboten, of course, but then it always was.

When I played high school rugby in the 90s rucking was fine. Only things similar to rucking that were outlawed were stomping and mountaineering. Was a stamp of pride to look at your legs, especially the calves, and see them coated with marks post-game. Means you did a good job.

True...my last ever act on the rugby field was to get sin binned for rucking over the top...

Can't imagine why raking people with metal spikes was banned. PC gone mad?

They weren't "metal spikes", Godfrey. In fact, prior to the game referees would inspect each player's boots to make sure there were no sharp edges on aluminium studs or nails protruding on leather studs.

That was why I preferred plastic studs, you could burr them up quicker after the ref inspected them with a heavy walk on the concrete back into the sheds after you had "forgotten" your mouth guard.

Yeah, they were more like those masseuse sandals if you turn the sole upside down.

The plastic ones always let the worse scars have got a nice scar along of back and on leg from being rucked with people wearing plastic studs , they always had the worst burrs on them.

My experience with rucking is that it never actually got anyone out of the way until the momentum was well and truely stopped anyway.
All that ever seemed to happen was that you get slow ball and there was never any penalties, just some forward with a few extra stripes down his back.
If the refs were to penalise tacklers not rolling away and defenders diving on the ruck, there would be no need to bring back rucking.

So I say: He's not rolling sir, when are we gonna see a yellow?

I always wanted a fat woman with talented asian toes to stand on my back, but don't enjoy getting rucked.
