What next for the Boks?

Paarl, when is Bismarck Battleship due back? Any news on the Bekker (latest) injury?

The tough questions that need to be answered over the next two weeks:

Midfield: With Fourie suspended they will likely play JdV at 13. Do they persist with Olivier or play De Jongh at 12? Probably Olivier. I prefer de Jongh.

Back row: Tough choices. Need Juan Smit back. Burger got the arse playing openside but I can't see him being dropped. Do they Keep Spies or play Kanko at 8? Bold move: Potgieter and Smith, Schalk at 8. Unlikely. Expect Smith, Burger, Spies.

Second row. If fit, will we see a Bekker / Matfield combo? Start Bekker and Rossouw?

10. Steyn has been poor. James to get a start? Oh fark I wish they tried Grant.

Big calls and we'll see if PdV has the balls to be bold. The 3N is out of reach now. I hope they use the opportunity properly.

(Mods can we have a clown smiley? It has become a necessity as far as I'm concerned.)

Last time I heard Bekker have a long term injury and wont play Tri Nation this year. Not sure about Bismarck. At the moment Tiaan & Gary Botha look in great nick. Adriaan Strauss also back and made a impack for the Tin Ears.

Agree de Jongh should have started in the first one against the All Blacks. He is a excellent defender and played with Mossie the whole season. I wont rush Jean back, he need gametime with WP to get his confidense back. Meisiekind can start in 13.

They'll probably start, Juan look much better this weekend. Problem is that we need a fecther alla Brussouw. Hopefully he'lll start in a week or two. Ashley Johnson played a stunner against the Brutes on the weekend. Two further big performances from him and he may end up in the squad.

No problem with Matfield/Rossouw. Think Matfield try his best, not his problem if Smit throw watermelons. Dunno about Flippie, think Fondse will be a better lineout option and probably WPs heart at the moment.

The fact that they dont rate Grant is a big mistake. Havent got the biggest boot but he sure defend and distribute flat ball well. I'll have Morne anyday in front of Bitch James. Vok I'll even have Willem de Waal in front of James. Morne will be much better at home , front foot ball and a scrummy that distribute quick. Pienaar havent deliver quick ball and I'd love to see Duvenhage getting a crack in 9. He is the brain behind WP and sure make a flyhalf like Willem looking good at the moment. The kids hand passing skill is just fantastic and the way he play around with the forwards and backs , something we need at the moment. Pienaar kicking was piss poor on saturday and gift the Wallabies with pill.

I havent watch much of the second All Blacks test and it was obvious the Bokke need confidense big time at the moment. The perfect ploy should have been to cancel their months vacation and let them started today with their CC provinces. To much reading into this burn out bull shite. They need a kick up their arse if you ask me, starting with the captain.

They should pick form players, not NH has beens.

We also need a new backline coach or defensive coach. Get the Stormers / WP one. Its obvious WP took defense to a new level. The whole WP backline have been with the Bokke and WP defense havent change one bit. THat show their structure is excellent and every single player from fatty to full back know what he needs to do. Compare that to the Bokke and they look threatened every time the Wallabies took it through the phases.

If start with the All Blacks and its a huge mountain to climb.

Not sure it matters who you pick while you play with an outdated game plan?

Juan Smith could do any job required in the back row - he can fetch, bash, run, link, tackle, and often does them all. With him in the back row the only question is whether you want big ball runners to go with him, or an out and out fetcher like Brussow or Potgieter or Louw.

Steyn would do better with, as Gagger suggests, a better game plan (pick either the Bulls or Stormers game and run with it - pun intended).

But really, the problem isn't depth or talent, it is the guy(s) running the show.

Paarl:

So Brussow is almost ready?

As for Flip I don't know what he did wrong that you want someone else. HE is the future at 4. Fondse is a good player but why would you invest time in another 4 lock if you have one in the system. Problem is with Bekker, he breaks too much and seems like that's the pattern with him. Who else at 5 as backup?

Gagger:

PdV's idea of changing game plan is to play people out of position. I honestly think he does not know what to do.

You can't play Kankowski Burger and Spies in the same backrow. They all need someone competing at the breakdown in order to play their natural running games. Juan Smith should be number 7 now with Brussow moving in when available.

Also, Olivier is not good enough for international rugby. Play Jean DeVilliers at 12 with De Jongh on the bench.

You've got to feel for Juan Smith, he's been out of action for a long while on compasionate grounds. Has he returned to playing rugby at any level?

He has played two Currie Cup games and from local news reports looks full of energy and in top shape. Lead this weekend's game in tackle count and carries.

He has been out before and is one of those players who seems to just get on with it.

Never saw Juan fecth in the past. He can tackle, jump in the lineouts, yes but not a fetcher. Schalk is the closest to that job and we need a fetcher urgently. Stegman also got injured and out for the month, so Flo just have to return to do the job. Still think it was a mistake to drop him but luckily he'll get his dose of CC and confidense back.

The problem with the gameplan between the Stormers and Brutes is that Morne Steyn stands futher back on his own ball compare to Grant and the defensive lines marker. Dont help much when Smit throw the ball for the opposition and thats where the problem starts. Tight 5. If they dont do their job properly we going to struggle.

Anyway lets see the home run, luckily this will be the last time the Tri/Four Nations will start down under. From 2011 it will start in SA and its all about confidense. If you get your home tests under the belt it ease up the away leg like last year.

Now can the Wallabies beat the All Blacks? Thats the secret to keep SA init. If they dont they will get bashed in SA at altitute like usual. If they do, we'll get the All Blacks here in Soweto with 95,000 supporters and will knock them hard to get a great finalle to the series.

What I hate about that article is that it paints all SA supporters and journos with one big brush. Most of us think the boks discipline has fallen the pieces and the coach has lost his nuts.

The VAST majority of SA fans are incensed an embarrassed.

I pointed that out to Zavos and he quotes all the hate mail he received fro ma previous article. Go figure. You critisize a country do you not expect some backlash? Come on.

There are some looney fans in SA who buy PdV's shit but they are a small minority.

PS SARU have come out saying they will address PDV's comments to the media but they back him 100% as coach.

In the Super 14 Steyn varied his position and drifted out and in, which is part of the reason the defense was kept guessing.

There's no plan. If there is one I haven't seen it. Don't blame Steyn. Would still love Grans on the bench but PdV is a bloody idiot to have let him go to Japan.

Bismarck will probably play from the Guppies bench this weekend.

IOL
In addition, Bismarck du Plessis and Jean Deysel looked in good shape and appear to be over their injuries, with Plumtree explaining that they would also add to the options available should they receive medical clearance later in the week.

Bekker out for the season.
WP Rugby site
Vodacom WP Head Coach Allister Coetzee today confirmed that WP lock Andries Bekker would undergo surgery to correct the recurrence of an old back injury.
Bekker's recovery and rehabilitation will be managed by the WP medical team. The injury is not career threatening and Bekker is expected to make a full recovery in time for the Vodacom Stormers 2011 Super 15 campaign

Great news re
Injury threatens to derail what could be a great career for Bekker. I don't think he has eve made it through a season?

Presents a real problem for the EOYT. Matfield simply has to be rested. Who can play 5? Hargreaves? Seems very average.

Hargreave should be fine. Bekker maybe his fucking in the park have something to do with that back injury. Maybe the specialist will remove his balls also in the operation to spare the back.

Juandre Kruger. Assuming he continues his Northampton form at the Bulls during the Currie Cup. He is paired with Flip vd Merve this weekend for the Bulls. The future Bok lock pair in action?
