AICES First XV 2016 - another great team to build upon the great results of 2015. Returning is quite a few members of the very successful AICES Under 16 team of 2015 including NSW U17 Gold team members Ruben Vermark and the speedster Liam Kelly. Several AICES first XV members from 2015 are also back including Robert Afele, AICES 2015 captain Aron Peters, Ben Shelley and Bai Rabuku. There are also some amazing new talent coming through unseen with the most promising being Giordan Patea an outside centre who played in the Australian U15 Rugby league merit team and Leolafisa Papiellete - a bruising flanker. First trial is against CHS II.

The fact that several AICES first XV from 2015 and AICES Under 16 2015 couldn't make the team this year can only be good for this underdog division.

Unfortunately Giordon Petea has withdrawn, it will be a big loss.

The AICES U16 team had a great start to its campaign for 2016. First up they played CHS II and in a great display took out the honours with a late penalty goal 3 - 0. Great players (and ones who hopefully get at least noted by NSW selectors) for the team was the captain and skillful 7 Daniel Darwall who made countless steals, 6 Ben Francis and number 8 Jahnneric Afele whom made constant yards in attack and hit hard in defence, the young number 19 Aiden Wearne who was a menace in defence and 12 Mackenzie Kay who looked classy despite getting limited chances.

In the next game CCC ran out fresh to take on the AICES boys. AICES went down a converted try in quick speed due to one of the few errors they made and then spent an inspiring 25 minutes holding out a very good outfit from CCC and threatening their line constantly. It was just a lack of polish which prevented AICES from scoring a few good tries and they went down 7 - 0. Their defence was fantastic and they look like being a real threat to the more distinguished divisions next weekend.

So, 2018 season has kicked off for AICES, the smallest yet still passionate association.

In the u16's the AICES boys played ISA 2's and CCC going down 7-5 to ISA 2's and avenged last years 55 - 0 drubbing by defeating CCC by 15 - 14. Great players to watch here are the number 8 Hunta Saunders and the number 13 Patrick Thornton from Emmanuel Anglican. The number 7, Ethan Mosely, whilst the smallest forward from all three teams showed plenty to offer.

The opens took down the ISA 3's 14 - 12 with 10 Lachlan Shelley, 2 Jack Winchester, 5 Aidan Wearne and the centres 12 Harvey Neville and 13 Jackson Forde hopefully making some selectors at least note who they are . They also went down 10 -0 to CHS 2's in a close fought match

The opens next play ISA 2's while the u16 have the daunting task of taking on the absolutely huge and skillful CHS 1's.
AICES still making some big strides forward - being more than competitive in every match played thus far.

Difficult for AICES boys as the big guns have so much more depth. For example - several years ago we had the Australian 7's player Tim Anstee who played awesome in the trials but still got overlooked as he was in a well beaten team. This year the opens have some special players with the Australian Barbarians player from 2017, Jack Winchester(2) the most obvious choice to look at. He is very good. Other players as mentioned include lachlan shelly(10), both centres , Harvey Neville(12) and Jackson Forde (13) and the lock Aidan Wearne(5) - who is a year young and still growing into his frame - next year would be his go probably. All of them would not look out of place at the next level. But there are hundreds of excellent players around.

AICES opens put up a valiant display today leading ISA 2's 19 -14 with 10 minutes to go before ISA scored some three quick tries to ultimately assign AICES to another defeat to the tune of 38 -19. Best for AICES was easily Jack Winchester (2) who nabbed at least 5 turnovers. Others to impress were Lachlan Shelley(10) with 2 tries and the fullback Hudson Berry who plays well above his weight. AICES inability to move the ball beyond the inside centre was its demise as they had some quality players out wide who really couldn't show what they are capable of. Much improved performance again from the boys and hopefully they can get their first ever boy picked into a NSW team today.

The Under 16 team shocked many at the NSW championships last weekend. The boys went up against the massive lads from the CHS and were behind at half time 8 -3. In the end CHS wore down AICES to the tune of 28 - 3. In the next match we witnessed the arrival of the amazing Harry Snook, the fullback for AICES. In an amazing performance and well accompanied by Hunta Saunders(8), Patrick Thornton(13) and Jarod Homan(23) the AICES boys pushed ISA 2's the whole way and were leading after the full time siren 20 -15 before conceding a late try after holding the line for at least a dozen phases.

The next day the snook show continued and the AICES boys defeated the ISA 1's 25 - 15. The reserve flyhalf, Turoa Williams, still an u15 boy had an amazing game as did Anders Slew(12) and the whole forward pack. It did help that ISA had a red card but other than that the game was hard, fair and brutal . Hopefully some of the AICES boys will get noticed for their effort. Harry Snook must be in with a chance for selection as hopefully is Hunta Saunders.

More success for AICES 2018 squads - in another first AICES has 2 players picked in the NSW schools 1 and 2 teams(under 16). Big congrat to Harry Snook who made NSW 1's and Brendan Pillman who made NSW 2's. 5 of our boys were also picked in NSW Country. Well done to Patrick Thornton, Joshua Cox, Hunta Saunders, Mitch Watts and Nic Bignall. What a year!
