i'd like to see argentina in 2023...keep the growth momentum going. I'd imagine most fans from the home nations would all love the opportunity to descend en masse to argentina.
2027 revert to SA or Ireland with some or all of scotland, wales and italy (a rabodirect world cup)

Ireland unfortunately don't have enough stadia to host a RWC and we lack the political vision to grasp the notion that "If you build it they will come" doesn't have to be just a quote from a movie. I'd love to see a PRO12 WC spread across Ireland, Wales, Scotland and Italy and even 1 or 2 games in countries like Spain & Portugal.

Sometimes we forget that there are many countries in Europe with a lot of potential growth for RU to make.

It's a shame we had to give up the 7s world cup, that's a great platform to do what you mention above. Look at Russia, they'll be the last.

Obviously having it as an Olympic sport is better for the profile of the game overall.

2023 Argentina
2027 Italy or USA

would make up for the shitness of the 2018 and 2022 fifa world cups being held in russia and qatar.

Don't get me started on the Football World Cups, so much bribery it is a disgrace.

Also Bardon I do agree with the potential of many countries for Union development. I think it is already happening to an extent in the Western countries such as Georgia, Romania and Russia playing more games and having players in the top world leagues. I honestly think World Rugby is progressing at a great pace, there is no longer that massive divide between the 6N and 3N sides and the rest.

Even by looking at results from the weekend. A locally picked Fijian side almost beat a full strength Scottish one. Canada beat the USA and narrowly lost to Italy infront of 11,000 people, that is great for the game. Then we have England, Wales and Ireland all losing at the death to the traditional world powerhouses.

Japan will start to rise, Argentina will definatly continue to build as will the Italians and Georgians. The US and Canada are gaining momentum and are the best market place for the game. And the Islander nations now have countless players running around in the top French and English leagues.

World Cup 2019, will be very even.

I would quite like to see an Italian Rugby World Cup in 2023. Argies for 2027. Both would be incredible experiences!

Agree Ireland would struggle financially to put on any kind tournament. But if we did it would be just like when your parents, or in some cases your gandparents, had important visitors and the best china was brought out. Once it was awarded everything would be done to make it the best we could and to make sure fans from all over the world felt welcome and enjoyed the party.

As for Italy if they did get it I would prefer that the other games be spread around the Med, with places like Spain, Portugal and even on developmental ground maybe Greece (if it still exists by then and hasn't been demolished by the receivers and a supermarket put up in it's place) and Croatia. This at least would lead to some form or architectural consistent. I have horrible images of Aus or NZ supporters traveling with the expectation of ionic and doric columns and instead being surrounded by communist party concrete and greyness.

If Italy were to get a World Cup I'm sure they could send a few games over to France, and maybe Spain or Porgugal if either was competing.......... but I doubt you'd see it spread across non participating (not including Romania here) eastern european countries.......

I'm sure Italy has the facilities to run the entire tournament domestically. What an exciting place for it!

Well done all! Looks like we've already settled this issue by consensus. Taking the alternating between NH & SH into account 2023 will be in Italy and 2027 in Argentina, with USA & Canada penciled in for 2031. Now that we've solved that for the IRB all the money that was to go on getting bids ready, junkets for officials to check out venues etc. can instead be channeled into grass roots rugby and expanding our wonderful game around the world.

Since we've solved it with plenty of time to spare maybe the IRB should send us some other stuff to sort out for them and they can get on with the important business of snoozing off boozy lunches in dusty oak paneled rooms.

Going back to the home unions in 2023 might be a bad idea. France and England will have already hosted it in recent years. Better off sending 2023 to South Africa which is at least on the same time zone, has the stadiums from the Football WC and hasn't hosted the tournament in donkeys years. Then wait and see where Rugby is heading after the Olympics 7s before deciding about 2027.

I don't think there is enough Rugby popularity in Italy to make a proper fist of an Italian World Cup.

2007 France
2011 New Zealand
2015 England / UK
2019 Japan

South Africa and Argentina are surely the next cabs off the rank. I suppose USA / Canada as well. Maybe the Americas can host one together.

I don't know that Ireland could afford the world cup of checkers, let alone rugby.

.but I'd love to see one of then go to Italy with a bunch of pool matches in the eastern European countries.
Dont break up the tournament amongst multiple countries!! Doesnt work except for the UK

Buenos Aires is closer to Paris than it is to Vancouver. It wouldn't make sense to have Canada and Argentina hosting it together. I'd say 2023 Argentina, but I don't think we'll see 2027 going any other place than South Africa. Also, I don't think Italy are ready (although they may be in 15 years...)
We can start thinking of 2031 after that. Italy, USA/Canada, Ireland and Russia (they had said they wanted it) can get a chance.
