Our 2009 season starts this weekend and thought I give you a bit of a look in our teams and results exct. The CC is running with two divisions, U21s and U19 youth groups.

I'll put my money on the Brutes Louie, they are the S14 champions afterall and they have a very strong squad even without their Bokke. Surely the team with the strongest structure from U19 right up to the top and if one gets injured there will ne a next youngster waiting to get his call.

Sharks the current champion I'll rate nr 2 , nr 3 I think will be the Cheetahs and 4 WP.

Cant see the Lions get it this time, they start now with Jake White as co ordinator at the bottom.

The international players play CC are Sereli & Chris Jack for WP, Clever for the Lions & Hernandez for the Sharks.

Andrew Slack (58)
Sharks are pretty much the same team as in S14. You'd expect them to be strong but they seems to have developed a knack for being, well, shit.

Bulls depth looks good. Interesting to see they are playing Franscois Hougaard on the wing. He is the player in the whole squad I am most excited about. He had an awesome game against the Lions from the Kings.

Hoping a tight head prop and a four lock can step forward from the CC. That's the area where the Bosk swuad lacks depth.

You put it much better to the Namaqualand talking on TSF. :lmao:

I dunno if Blue dig deeper in the Brutes talents and get a look in the U21s?

See Vermeulen is retiring.

Also like the look of your youngster Frik Kirsten and you know my thoughts on Rossouw de Klerk now playing for the U21s.
The U21s for saturday
Blou Bulle o21: 15 Aubrey MacDonald; 14 Wynand Willis, 13 Stephan Dippenaar, 12 Stefan Watermeyer, 11 Tom Seabela; 10 Marnitz Boshoff, 9 Danie Faasen; 8 CJ Stander, 7 Marnus Schoeman, 6 Devin Oosthuizen, 5 Willem Serfontein (kaptein), 4 Bêrend Botha, 3 Rossouw de Klerk, 2 Henri Bantjes, 1 Morné Mellet. Reserwes: 16 Zane Botha, 17 Peet Vorster, 18 Oswin Mentoor, 19 Jaco Fourie, 20, Nico van Zyl, 21 JC Roos, 22 Simphiwe Mtimkulu.

Leeus 021: Wiaan Buys; Riaan Arends, Coert Cronjé, Winston Williams, Bernado Botha; Elton Jantjies, Danny Botha; Justin Wheeler ©, Thulip Marole, Johan van Deventer, David Bullbring, Levi Odendaal, Ryno Bosman, Martin Bezuidenhout, Caylib Oosthuizen. Reserwes: Leon Venter, Riaan Kemp, Shane Kirkwood, Jaco Kriel, Rudy Paige, Luan Steenkamp, Hein Cronjé.

Backup for Bakkies, I think the closest you get to him is Pakslae. One thing we know now, Muller is nowhere near Bok quality, Sucks havent impressed me at all. I like Fondse.

Blue

Andrew Slack (58)
Fondse looks a decent player. My worry is I haven't see another four in SA with real mongrel for a while now.

There's a big hole there if both Bakkies and Rossouw decide to go overseas, which may be sooner than we think.

PaarlBok

Rod McCall (65)
Sure you dont kick the likes of Bakkies or Pakslae out of every bush, make no mistake. Hope Klein Flippie van der Merwe turns up in the Brute team.

If last nights Cheetah vs Griekwas game is anything close we'll see in this years CC, please bring more. A game played at a awesome pace and some big rucking, tackling and slick backline moves init.

My thoughts after the game is that you can start writing the name Sarel Pretorius down. He impressed me when he played against the Lions for the Royals (Griekwas in shite clothing) but last night he got binned , and come back and clinch this one for the Biltong Eaters. A gutsy little scrummy plays with a lot of ball skills and pace. Potgieter and Strydom had a nightmare last night and lot of work for the Tin Ears

Scores yesterday Boland 26 Leaopards 18, Cheetahs 18 Griekwas 28. Griekwas get a five pointer after scoring 4 great tries.

PB campaigning for another dirty player. ;)

Or is this one a ref abuser? :fishing

PaarlBok,

I'm a keen follower of the Currie Cup but only had time to watch highlights of the Cheetahs-Griquas match. What did you make of the result? Griquas are definitely a talented side but usually they are tougher to play at home. Should the Cheetahs be worried that they (seemingly) got handled at home to one of the small franchises? They're one of the big teams least affected by Springbok callups in this early part (although losing quality of Brussow and Smith will always hurt) and are usually frontrunners in this competition. Cause for concern even though the first match?

And conversely, do you think the Griquas may, shock of all shocks, actually be able to contend for a semi berth this year? Their doppelganger squad against the BI Lions was certainly impressive and winning in Bloem to start the season is fantastic for them. Got some talent in key postions, Pretorius (saw his penalty though, idiotic shoulder right in front of the ref!) and Olivier in the halves, and the back-row looks strong. Legitimate challenger or 1st round hiccup? cheers

Rod McCall (65)
You have to remember that Griquas won the Vodacom Cup in the Ring. Think they have a special squad at the moment and their matches againts the Cheetahs always a big derby and close. IAfter watching fridays match I'll rate them higher as a small province and sure will be difficult to beat at Kimberley bu any team.

Watch a few matches and the Brutes dont look even close to the same team that won the S14. I'd back WeePee to beat them at the Ring on the weekend. WeePee dominate the Sharks and that scoreline flatter the Sharks.
