The best XV of players from any school

Joe Walsh has signed with Manly Warringah rugby league to a professional deal and would now be ineligible

The best XV of players from any school

You're still missing the point. In schools where they don't run rugby programs the only place that those kids can play is in the junior club system. 67% of kids in NSW go to a state school - if there's no state school kids playing rugby it's a reflection of the fact that the junior club...

The best XV of players from any school

Hmmm, I think that you're completely missing the point. The point isn't whether or not CHS or CCC schools/systems 'look after' rugby as a sport. Boys have always been able to represent SJRU and NSW Country - those teams were in existence decades ago. The wonderful 'pathway' of which you speak...

The best XV of players from any school

The game used to have plenty of traction in the state school system. Unfortunately during the early 00s the ARU and NSWRU reissued them with bald tyres and threw a bit of oil on the road in front of them. :)

    NSW AAGPS 2025

Having been involved with Cliffy Palau way back in his Manly Colts days - to my knowledge he never went to Newington or any other GPS school for that matter. He in fact went to Balgowlah Boys' High School (my old school). :)

    School sporting scholarships/recruitment

Indeed. It should be remembered that way back in 2011 the Liberals were elected and one of their commitments was to amend the entry criteria for High so that they weren't solely bound by the Selective Schools entrance test, but would be able to reserve some places for boys who still met a high...

    NSW AAGPS 2024

I agree that demotion isn’t going to improve the standard, but nor is getting beaten by 50 plus points every week. Player safety was one reason for the original move. From 5 competition games High results are V Riverview 0-68 L V Scots 5-50 L V TAS 20-33 L V Joeys 0-66 L V Shore 0-81 L...

    NSW AAGPS 2024

Have we very sadly reached the point of turning off the metaphorical life support re SBHS? In the space of 20 years they’ve gone from being reasonably competitive 1sts on 1sts, to uncompetitive 1sts on 1sts ( similar to 81-0), to dropping down to 3rds where they originally were quite...

    CAS Rugby 2024

It's a great concept in theory but, AICES and CCC don't run weekly competitions, CHS sport only runs on Wednesday afternoons (and only in a few areas where rugby still has a meaningful presence), and the biggest but of them all is that at the moment GPS refuse to become involved (which is their...

    ISA 2024

I too love the irony of it all. It's an interesting contrast to what happens with independent girls' schools sport where all schools no matter how old they are or how recently they started are welcomed into IGSA and play sport on an equal basis.
  11. Quick Hands

    CAS Rugby 2024

I think one proposal is that CAS and ISA play their respective competitions and then the top 3 from each go into a 6 team Div 1 and the remaining schools (7 I think?) go into a Div 2. This preserves the traditional association competitions and then provides more a more evenly matched...

You're in the running for schoolboy rugby post of the season for this sentence alone.

    NSW AAGPS 2024

Since the NSW Rugby Schools Union has been subsumed into NSW Juniors, all of the archived results have disappeared into the ether. The AAGPS website used to also have many of these results in the archived section of their website, but they must have done a website upgrade and it only goes back...

    NSW AAGPS 2024

Sigh, firstly I was talking in general terms over time rather than one specific game. But, I'll indulge you if you like - I'd hardly call 24-7 being "pumped", particularly when one considers that ISA had (by your own observation) a tough game in the morning against GPS while, CAS had a...
  15. Quick Hands

    NSW AAGPS 2024

Historically that's how it worked - they would pick the best 15 players in 1sts, next best 15 in 2nds and then fill the bench in 1sts and then 2nds bench. Not sure if that's how it still works.
  16. Quick Hands

    NSW AAGPS 2024

I'm fairly certain that ISA have never beaten GPS, they may have had a win somewhere against CAS but I'm unsure. ISA have been a steady improver in these games. ISA lacks the depth of GPS, but seems to be much closer in depth and strength to CAS than it has been in the past. Going back into...

    NSW AAGPS 2024

Although rugby league still has a schoolboy system and schoolboy championships, and while the whole thing is run under the auspices of the ARL/NRL the teams are very much selected and coached by their relevant associations and teaching staff. Their equivalent schools championship start this...

Thanks for posting Breakdown by association is interesting. GPS - 20 CAS - 14 ISA - 10 CHS - 2 CCC - 0 Without reflecting on any boy involved, and in complete acknowledgement of the excellent rugby programs run across the schools which these boys attend, I think it's concerning for the game...

  20. Quick Hands

    NSW AAGPS 2024

A game in which one could have almost written a script for. Joeys very efficient and effective in possession and executing the key skills of the game at speed with a minimum of errors and punishing opposition turnovers. Newington defending doggedly for the first half, then letting in 3 quick...
