Blueys are the envy of Div1 in terms of 1st Grade but are there any concerns about lack of quality in their grades? They obviously have a huge number of players but they aren't winning too many games outside of 1st Grade and not for the first time this year their 1s have prevented a clean sweep...
Whether it was their return to Shute Shield or brief and unsuccessful run in the ACT comp the "plan" never seems to work at Penrith. Returning to any sort of Premier Rugby for the Emus would be a pipe dream. Very interested to see where they would fit in the Divisions if they do in fact return...
Looking forward to the next few rounds with Newport v Petersham in 2 weeks and then St Pat’s. Breakers have made a fast start to the year and may enjoy the week off in the top grade.
Petersham have had an interrupted start to the season with the Epping fixture and then two washouts in a row. 3...
The weather won't deter a few tips for this week!
DIV 1
Waverley v Forest - Ladies Day postponed for Waverley but the lads will have their eye on the prize with no distraction. Waverley by 20+. Colts the only game falling for Forest.
Mosman v Lindfield - Mosman look to have rediscovered their...
Still think some of these issues could have been addressed earlier. Epping's significant problems would have been fairly obvious weeks if not months before Round 1 yet the competition doesn't get reshuffled until literally days before the season starts.
I see Colleagues 2nd colts are back in...
Becoming pretty obvious that the 3x 8 club division structure is unachievable in reality. It’s great in theory and it works great for Div 1 but after 3 rounds the forfeits and missing games in Div 2 & 3 highlight a few obvious problems.
2 rounds in but looks like Blue Mountains are going to be VERY hard to beat in Kentwell this year. Hard to see any other club matching their quality across the park.
Newport off to a flying start to 2024 - haven’t dropped a game in 3 rounds! Will be hard to hunt down with such a strong lead.
Early indications are we could have 7 clubs genuinely fighting for the top 4! Will be interesting to see how it all pans out and the depth of clubs gets tested with inevitable injuries, holiday etc but seems as though any team can get the win on their day.
Shaping up as a cracking week in Round 1 for Div 1. Particularly interested to see how Lindfield fare and how Mosman bounce back after an unusually slow 2023.
Grand Final rematch at Boronia Park (edit: at Lapstone!) as well. Have Blue Mountains retained their all-star Kentwell team?
A 10 club Div 1 was proposed at the AGM and the clubs said no favouring the neat 14 round draw. Seems as though some Div 2 players/clubs won't be getting their 14 games though and will have a season riddled with byes (exactly what we wanted to avoid).
This is laughable and the issues will only compound once the season starts. I feel for Epping to an extent as they’re good blokes and always hang around for a beer afterwards but how long will this last. Playing 2nd & 3rd grade all year - where is the incentive? Seems a bit hollow. Surely Epping...
"Information available at the time" - I take it clubs haven't been honest and broke the news too late.
I imagine the pre-season division meetings would be a perfect opportunity for clubs to sit down with board members to discuss the season ahead and potential issues (I appreciate this requires...
Both seem like fair solutions. Unfortunately a revised draw hasn't been published. As it stands Briars colts are still playing Epping and UNSW colts still playing Hills.
No problems though, the clubs will sort it out and let everyone know.
Decisions about how many grades Epping will play and what grades they will compete in. Decisions about who is going to fill the void left by Epping and Hills not having Colts and how the draw will work if it involves multiple clubs. Decisions about how the competition will be restructured to...
Too much to ask for Subbies to issue a statement? Subbies have a website and social media accounts.
Much rather put it back on the clubs to explain to their members why they don't have a proper competition 3 days out from Round 1 when they have had minimal involvement in the decision making...
Has there been any developments in relation to the Epping/Div 2 saga? Round 1 is less than a week away and I don't think these problems are just "rumours"
Subbies have a lot of questions to answer. Less than a week out from Round 1 and clubs still in the dark. Hard to organise a Halligan Cup game if you don't know how many grades your opposition has.
I think Colts is the tip of the iceberg for Epping and there are bigger issues to come. Opposition clubs are frustrated and it will only grow the longer these questions remain unanswered. Clubs and players want certainty.
