    CAS Rugby 2023

It should be remembered when criticizing the GPS, that the CAS for 8 years (2009 to 20016) played a ten round "home and away" comp. The GPS will do what it sees best for its schools and not for anyone else. Self interest always rules. They are in a joint GPS/CAS water polo comp but that is...

    CAS Rugby 2022

Love this historical material! Well done. One correction. In 1991 Knox and Barker were joint winners. Both winning 4 losing 1. Knox beat Barker 16-15 but lost to Cranbrook. Barker's only loss was the one to Knox.

    Shute Shield 2017

Hi JulesD One of my great interests is Sydney club rugby, but one of the problems you face is that there is nowhere (to my knowledge) where it is all consolidated in one spot. There is no history of clubs in one volume as there is for league and AFL. There are books on the history of some...

    CAS expansion

Hi White line fever This is not about who was the best team. To me it is about recording what actually happened. I concede that your interpretation has validity. Agree that being part of the draw doesn't mean that SPC and SPX were part of the comp. Although officially there was no comp...

    CAS expansion

Hi White line fever Agree we agree to disagree. I have never argued that St Pats and St Pius were part of the CAS. What as far as I know happened was that for the years in question they were included in the rugby draw. For example, Round 1 of 1979 was W v A, K v T, B v C, SPC v SPX. Now it...

    CAS expansion

Always good to remember the good old days. By the way St Pius colours were blue and gold. They were a pretty good side in 1977 and 78. Both them and St Pats had played in The Combined Schools association (TCS) which consisted of 6 catholic schools most of whom are now playing in ISA. St...

    CAS expansion

Sorry to gently correct you but in those year (1978-83) there was a full round of 7 games including St Pats and St Pius. I have the scores for most of these games. In 1979, Waverley did play St Pius on Saturday 16 June at Queens Park and won 32-4. St Pius was scheduled to play Barker on 23...

    Shute Shield 2017

Maybe we go back to the future. As in 2007. Shute Shield was played April to July. Then First grade played for the Trevor Allan Cup from August to September in parallel with the old ARC. Bring back the Trevor Allan Cup?

    CAS expansion

This is my recollection of what happened in those years. There was consideration of increasing the membership of the CAS in the early1980s but it never took place. Between 1978-1983, St Patrick's College, Strathfield and St Pius X College, Chatswood took part in the CAS "rugby programme"...

    Shute Shield 2016

Hi Coach We all love our respective clubs and I do agree that sharing the prize around would be good. But Coach did you have the same feeling when Randwick won 12 out of 15 first grade premierships between 1978 - 1991? :) or when in 2003 Randwick had won 28 club championships and the...

    NRC onwards and upwards

Maybe what needs to happen is that the NRC becomes a stand alone pro/semi-pro club comp that runs for the full season not for just a few weeks to fill in. Would create a Problem for the Brisbane and Sydney comps but remember that in the first year there was talk that existing clubs could be...

    NRC onwards and upwards

Agree. Or maybe leave the rest untouched but have the top two or three clubs from Sydney go in after the Shute Shield is over. Unless Qld would want to do the same. Could possibly allow such clubs to top up with players from clubs that didn't make it.

    Sydney First Grade teams

H kiap I am in the John Mulford camp. People like John, Tom Hickie and Sean Fagan inspired me with their books to go back and search the old newspapers to find the references and quotes that they used. There is (to my knowledge) no evidence that the Southern Rugby Football Union was...

    Sydney First Grade teams

In my listings the clubs in bold are clubs either entering the comp for the first time or changing their names. So when you see Northern Suburbs or Drummoyne for the first time they are existing clubs but have changed their name.
