John I. Dent Cup 2017 - ACT Premier Rugby

I know I am late on this but that grand final royals lost by about 40 points to a whites team that hadn't lost a game all year, don't think the referee had much to do with the result.

John I. Dent Cup 2017 - ACT Premier Rugby

They do recruit a large colts squad, your argument would have a little weight if they didn't have kids from all over Canberra and then 10 players from Brisbane. Kids go there because they get promised the world, half of them think they are going to be professionals and tuggers tell them they can be!

John I. Dent Cup 2017 - ACT Premier Rugby

What is the go with Wests forfeiting colts? Heard eats and even Royals are struggling for colts players this year too! Suppose tuggers still think it's a good idea to recruit a colts squad of 45 for 20 of them not to get a game each week, would be better if they were at other clubs to make it a...

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

We haven't got a winger as good as him! Jake is very impressive, on the end of a better backline though, Kotz would look better on the end of a backline as good as that!

No doubt players can get picked for different reasons. But surely club rugby should be used to develop blokes into first picked first graders before they get a shot at NRC level?

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Yeah you are probably right, I don't agree with how the whole thing is run. I'm glad there are more club blokes getting a chance. My question is more around the club players getting used, on one hand taula is picked because he is the best prop going around despite the fact he is well over 30...

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

I've still got a gripe, big surprise I know! Bit confused if the director or coaching at the Vikings are picking the best club players or picking them for development reasons?

Just to make it clear, I really want this comp to work, our game needs all the success it can get at the moment. It just worries me that we are putting more and more resources we can't afford towards it and it will just fold given that fans aren't buying into it!

You do realise that the Beetota Advocate takes the piss? My personal opinion is this Comp in its current state will never capture the attention of the wider rugby community! I went to the Vikings v Eagles game a couple of weeks ago, before it was a curtain raiser being the under 18 grand final...

Funny what happens when the club players get more of a go!

That would have something to do with the rules changing, up until now there was a cap of 14 super rugby players, that cap is no longer in place! Personally I think the club players selected are fair and reflect performances in the John I dent, with probably one exception! Better than the 80%+...

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

So the balance if having one club playing in the starting team is the right balance, and that one player is over 30? They have the balance right because they win? I would say the team they are playing this week, the Eagles have the balance right. A player like dargaville should not be playing...

Jamie Kotz was recently named in Rugby News as one of the best 10 unsigned talents in Australian rugby, yet can't get a game in the match day squad!

I see you are from Sydney where there are plenty of spots for local talent given the three teams, if there was one team that was used primarily for preparation for the super rugby season you might hold a different view!

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Well it shouldn't be, NRC teams shouldn't just be an arm of a super rugby program, it makes a very unfair competition particularly for the 3 nsw teams. If it should be like this it should be a 5 team competition that are just super rugby teams without their wallaby players!

Canberra Vikings - Offical NRC Team Thread

Sorry but i thought the NRC was to give club blokes the chance at the next level, not so for the Canberra team, who sign blokes out of a Queensland colts comp, so apparently that is a better comp than our our first grade. If he is so good why havent either two of the queensland teams picked him...

    NRC onwards and upwards

There are plenty of issues that would need to be worked through, but if fairness is one of them then the NRC doesn't follow that. Look at James dargaville, apparently picked up a super rugby contract through his performances for the stars in 2014, then because of his brumbies contract is made to...

The problem with what we have is that it has not engaged fans, is costing money the super rugby franchises and the ARU don't have. Are there any kpi's that this competition is meant to hit? And which of them can't be hot but alternatives that don't cost as much?
