ACT JRU U18 Competition & ACT Schools XV 2017

Marist put on a clinical display on Saturday to dispatch Eddies, cementing them as the overwhelming favourite to take out the title this year. The next interesting clash will be Marist v Grammar this week.

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2017

Not expecting the forum to buy anything, nor putting any players down. The ref wasn't happy with something, pinged them a bit. Like I said whatever it was it got sorted by later games.

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2017

I'm told about 90 boys were asked to try out for the team. As for Locks..well there aren’t any giant 2+ Metre locks laying in wait in Canberra in the U18s. The boys that went to Sydney showed height isn’t everything. Their line outs were excellent and held their own. Scrums were another thing...

Did you notice that a significant number of those facebook comments are from people that don't live in the ACT?

But you don't need to be super tall or super big to win games (it helps), but the ACT just proved smart rugby wins. Their lineouts were brilliant against taller teams, they even won a significant amount of ball. Their smaller backs shreaded larger back lines.

All ACT players appear to be fit and ready to go. Anyone know how QLD2 come through from that brutal game against NSW 1 ?

Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2017

You just have to be impressed by the effort of the ACT this year, It's amazing that a group of boys (there are only 5 div 1 teams in Canberra this year) can come together like they have to get to the position they are in. A total credit to themselves, family, clubs and coaches.

Marist and CGS put on a great game last weekend. High-quality Schoolboy rugby. Marist got the win in what was a real arm wrestle. You have to wonder what would have happened if CGS didn't play the last 60 minutes with only 14 men. I guess we will find out in a couple of weeks.
