Ireland v Australia, Saturday 26 November

for me anyway - I just love his all round game - big defence, big attack, great skills, goes at full tilt... I think Read's game has regressed a little since taking over captaincy.

Ireland v Australia, Saturday 26 November

This is going to be such an interesting game. Ireland have it all over the Australian's in the forwards - the IRE front row is outstanding, Toner is playing at world class level at the moment, OBrien is a beast and Heaslip is maybe the best 8 in the world at the moment. The Aussies are lacking...

    The Rugby Championship 2016

Oh, what a shame... I thought Smith had been good in the front row too. It will be a baptism of fire for the young props if Kepu cops an injury.

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Pro Rugby has been excellent at the online streams. If I log onto Facebook on Monday morning, I'll see a game being streamed live. It's fantastic.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I think it's interesting reading through the comments on this thread. From my perspective, aping other countries, sports or competitions isn't a solution to the 'declining participation'. The horse has bolted here and there's little that can be done to reign it in. How we can affect change in...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I think there are only a few things that matter for most grassroots clubs - good competitions, support for recruitment activities, good administrators, great coaches, and great referees. My club contributed around $17,000 (around $100K from the region) to the ARU and QRU in levies last year and...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Heard about 3,700. Great day for Rugby in the US. Skill level obviously needs some work but there are some big bodies and it's wonderful to see a pathway for some of the college athletes within the US.

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I think the goals are fantastic. The problem I had when the ARU and state unions started levying players was that it was a levy with no accountability or plan. To some extent there is still a lack of a plan but at least they've identified targets. It is a bit hard to get a feel for some of the...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

As a pillar for the 5 year plan, Viva 7's seems to be a bit of an unknown. Touch and OzTag are huge competitions that are very similar to RL - I find it hard to think we can break into that very saturated market. Touch has a formal alliance with RL - perhaps the ARU would be better trying to buy...

disappointing that the pdf contains a typo in the title - austalian - wtf?

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

To their credit, there is a lot of acknowledgement and some soft targets around clubs. The worry is that there are many clubs and competitions that don't have the capacity to support growth even if the ARU programs delivered that. I think that's a more salient point that will require addressing...

Declining participation and ARU plans for the future

I think QH's point that competitive sport is club based is a good one. Many schools are gradually moving away from interschool weekly competition to more agreeable formats such as carnivals, and driving strategy with strong school focus carries significant risk. The most likely outcome is that...

RWC 2015 Final - Australia v New Zealand, Twickenham, Sunday 1 November, 3:00 AEDT

The other teams top teams aren't stupid though - they're all (probably except England and France right now) well coached and their players are improving skill wise all the time. You would think had Ireland and Wales not had so many significant injuries they might have gone a little further, and...

RWC 2015 Final - Australia v New Zealand, Twickenham, Sunday 1 November, 3:00 AEDT

Two teams whose philosophy is to not accept any result other than success. This will be a torrid and tight affair, the blood of Australians and New Zealanders will again flow on the fields of Europe and dedicated men put their body on the line for their country. Despite having a great number of...

    The Pulverisation of Australian Rugby

Winning (or highly competitive) Wallabies hide a lot of problems in the Aussie game. Cash is still the biggest issue and always is in a RWC year - Cheika has done a good job to have two teams that are capable of playing at the highest level so player burnout should be less an issue. I'd like to...
