The advantage rugby has over league in the concussion issue is the lack of constant head-on collisions off a run-up. That is the big issue that league will have to contend with and it's hard to see how they'll fix that with a 10m offside line.

I'm talking from a fairness and financial perspective - it's a bit of a crap shoot to who has 8 home games and who has 7 (if my math is right). Now, it could be 8 and 6, or worse. There's no reason any team should host an extra home game when it's possible to balance it.

There's actually something unique about this weekend in the 6 team comps - this is the first week of the second cycle, so the 2nd leg of meetings. If these are just washed out as normal, teams will play both games at home this season. Hopefully, common sense prevails and Subbies move the 3rd...

Subbies needs a domed stadium I reckon

It's chaos at Olympic Park in the NRL - doesn't bode well for Saturday

Not exactly on the coast but very wet here in Concord - not sure what Drummoyne is like ATM but assume Canada Bay will be closing most grounds here. This really begs the question about rugby being a winter sport, how do we get as many games as possible onto the grounds? Is part of the issue...

To avoid that my solution would be to hold them across 2 days on the same weekend - "reserves" and Colts on Saturday at the normal grounds, then 1s "in Union" on Sunday (or vice versa). Clubs won't want to lose a home game so this at least preserves that aspect with reserves as normal.

I was having this thought the other day - you'd have to do it div-by-div and, most likely, 1sts only (unless you've got a bajillion fields). I suggest the name "Subbies in Union Round", personally.

It'll all depend on the grounds themselves and the councils. A few years ago we had to play Lindfield at Koola despite torrential rain - that council apparently never closed grounds and left it up to the clubs. I went on Friday afternoon and the ground was a waterfall down to the street. 3rd...

For sure - but it's 2025, we don't need an abacus to add a half point

I think if the first leg is rained out, you should play 1.5x points for the next 2 given they're all HAH or AHA. Means that both teams have hosted games worth the same points rather than one team hosting double-points and the other normal. Obviously if the second or third legs wash out you'd...

Maybe a dumb question Pfitzy but is Kellyville sand based? I think most of the major stadia in Sydney are and they don't tend to water log like local grounds can.

Previously rounds have been canned as if they weren't scheduled at all -happened in D2 last year I believe

Right you are - not sure if that has been changed since I last read it or if I just misunderstood it when I first saw it. Play on

Given they've already started playing, they'd have to forfeit 1s as that's the highest grade - Epping last year was an edge case, the manual says you forfeit your highest grade on each day if I'm not mistaken

You used to pop shoulders back in on the spot as well - the problem is there are risks with everything medical and while some of them are just unavoidable, there are plenty of other cases where it's no longer necessary to take them. If a bloke's hurt, he's hurt. If you can't move him safely...

    Sydney Subbies 2025

We had a similar situation a couple of years ago - a player did just about every soft tissue in his knee on a wet day and was basically lying on the sideline for the entire 1sts game. A lot of clubs won't move players with serious injury anymore for liability purposes - anything more severe...

That is the McIntyre-Page final four, which has been used a number of times previously. The only issue is that you have 3 weeks of finals football rather than 2 with straight-elimination semis. In fairness, 1 and 2 do get a benefit by facing lower-ranked opponents in that system (1v4, 2v3), but...
