    QLD Premier Rugby 2025

A national club comp starting with hospital cup teams and Shute shield teams after their respective seasons would be a good start to a third tier and then add further state teams if it ever got bigger. Unsure if you would chose clubs to be promoted to third tier comp or just award say the top 4...

Agree mate But also expansion would be cool though

    QLD Premier Rugby 2025

Expansion or providing better pathways will create growth in new or existing regions. Hence, why AFL and rugby league have been tweaking their pathways and structures recently. People just want to see the game grow mate.

Caboolture and Wynnum have been vocal about it, to be honest mate. However, it's clear that expansion wouldn't happen overnight. There are some great ideas on here and where else do you start without an idea? Calling it a non-issue and a "touch funny" demonstrates why rugby has been in...

    Couldn't agree anymore with this.

The Shute Shield model should be looked at. Grades 1-4 Colts 1-3 Womens Maybe reduce it down to Grades 1-3 Clubs like Brothers, UQ, Wests, Easts having Colts 4A and 4B, 5th & 6th Grade is pointless. But another hurdle is QRU Board, they don't seem to be interested in expansion.

Yeah both Caboolture and Wynnum have the same set up regarding teams and player base. So the bones of a qpr club. Caboolture is probably in a better position in regard to facilities and location being the Sunshine Coast region. I assume Easts wouldn’t be too interested in Wynnum becoming a QPR...

You could argue by the latest upgrades and extensions - Easts and GPS are on a similar path Wests made a couple of years ago to get into the positon they are in.

Yeah that's another hurdle. The big clubs want 9th grade playing on Friday nights

Yeah mate I agree, more of a long-term goal if rugby keeps heading in the right direction.

    QLD Premier Rugby 2025

Agree, that there would need to be direct assistance & planning from QRU as well as organic growth. to @Outsider point that those clubs would need to represent their respective regions not actually merge with clubs. The problem with clubs like Caboolture, Wynnum and Ipswich is that they have...

I believe Wynnum are quite interested but yeah agree, it would take a decent amount of time (and momentum) , 5-7 years before it materialised. Agree that best placed clubs for expansion would be Wynnum or Caboolture being within greater Brisbane.

Any news out subbies for 2024? Is there a Saturday comp or still all on Friday nights?

    Qld Premier Rugby 2024

Expansion should absolutely be on the cards but we all know that can't happen overnight or next year, and it will most likely take 5 years from now. How is rugby going to expand its player base by packing more blokes into Easts and Wests on a Thursday night?? There obviously needs to be...

This is an excellent growth mindset While we are at it, let’s drop to a 7 team QPR competition and go to 8 divisions. Reinforce that all players pathways must come through the traditional routes. Long live QPR and Australian Rugby.
