G&GR Wallaby Player of the Year: v SCO

3 Moore 2 Palmer 1 Sharpe Hard to give it to any of the backs, through no fault of 11-15.

    Who's to Blame?

Says a lot when we can't win a half against Scotland with a fucking cyclone behind us. ETA: on the positive side, at least we've finally found a tighthead prop who can keep his side of the scrum up and steady. Finally! One can only hope he won't be tarred by the loss in Dean's view as Beau...

    Wallabies vs Scotland - 5 June 2012

Anyone know what that loss did to our rankings?

    Who's to Blame?

I agree more droppies should've been attempted given the massive territorial advantage we had in the second half; especially given how hard it was for Scotland to make ground with a kicking game against that wind. Last time we played Scotland we saw how hard it was to score tries even once we'd...

The fundamental problem with Australian Rugby

I've always thought it might have something to do with the coaches thinking that Aussie derbies were the main matches they had an excellent chance of edging the forward battle and therefore they keep it tight. "Dour" rugby ensues. Against saffer and kiwi teams they don't (tahs excepted) expect...

    Hooper vs Gill

Unless one of them does a Nic Evans. I could see one of them being content to maybe/maybe not warm the Wallabies bench or be a squad-filler for the bulk of his playing years, but two is pushing it. Especially with Pocock being a durable 80 mins player. In favour of them not taking their...

    Scrum Talk

So they're including it in test-matches and Superugby now? From the article it was part of the new laws being passed.

    Scrum Talk

I see the lawmakers are expanding the bench to include an extra prop. http://planetrugby.com/story/0,25883,16017_7769153,00.html Will that decrease the value of props who play both sides? Is it even being implemented in the SH, or is it just a NH thing? Haven't seen too many mentions of it...

    Hooper vs Gill

I just hope they all stay in Australia. Pocock is safely capped but have either of the other two been locked out of pursuing an international career overseas? I'd hate for England to suddenly find themselves with a world-class fetcher (would they even know what to do with quick turnover...

    Scrum Talk

It keeps getting mentioned and then overlooked in favour of other proposed changes, but is it really that hard to make props wear looser shirts? They're tailored after all aren't they? What would the downside be? The inconvenience of a wardrobe inspector needed to ok prop uniforms...

Rebels vs Crusaders Rnd 12 Super Rugby 2012

Weren't there naysayers when Larkham, a proven world-class player at fullback, was moved to 10? Weren't there people saying it would blunt his effectiveness?

    Aus conference finals run

A bit off topic, but is anyone else getting the impression that the reduced number of matches against kiwi/saffer opposition is causing our boys to fall behind the pace?

    Questions for James O'Connor

Some of these have been suggested before but I'll repeat them: 1. If you had to pick a position to play for the next 5 years, which one would you ideally choose? 2. Which non-rebel do you find hardest to play against? 3. Which non-rebel rugby-player do you admire the most? 4. What do you make...

    aus front row

Palmer should be in the squad if for no other reason than to give Fatcat a proper workout at scrum practice. And we really need to pick our best scrum next time we play England at least, since workrate isn't really a factor there. They've shown that they're willing to pull the whole game down...

    Brumbies v Cheetahs Super Rugby R3 2012

I reckon SANZAR would be idiots not to call for a review of that last scrum, given that so many saffers consider it gospel that the penalty was either bad or biased. Which isn't the same as saying they (SANZAR) think the wrong decision was made. Sounds like a cover-your-arse procedure to me.

The briefest summary of round 3 from me....

I don't think the conference system was ever about "fair" -- it was always about making more money. And derbies apparently make more money. Not much point having a "fair" system if it sends two of the three member unions bankrupt.

    Brumbies v Cheetahs Super Rugby R3 2012

There seems to be a lot of grizzling about the scrum decisions in the last 20 mins. Is that "front row moving their heads" penalty actually in the rule book? Because if it is then I don't have a problem with the call, even if the brums did clearly go a bit earlier than the cheetahs. If they were...

Are the Brumbies up the Creek..

Of course he could just be taking advantage of the rumours to put pressure on the Brumbies to sweeten his contract. But yeah, doesn't look good. Now that he's seen how relatively thin Aussie playing stocks are he'd realize how much of a battle he's got ahead of him to produce results with the...

    Plumtree has a whinge

Yeah, I guess that's fair enough. Qld vs NSW is the closest we have to that sort of rivalry, and it sounds like it's a fair way off. The reds also seem to have a bit of a grudge against the force for pinching some of their players, but as far as rivalry goes that's not much chop. It doesn't...

    Plumtree has a whinge

It doesn't help that the saffa media feed the idea that saffa derbies are more intense than ours. Close-fought, low-scoring Aussie derbies are "bore-a-thons" or "dismal" or possibly "dour", while saffa derbies with the same sort of score are usually "arm-wrestles" or "tense" or "battles"...
