2016 Under-20 Rugby World Championships - Manchester UK

Did anyone happen to catch the rugby league last night? Angus Crichton debuted for the Rabbitohs and was very very strong(though rough around the edges). What a difference he would have made in Manchester as number 8.

Can you expand on this one. The Aus backs gave NZ plenty of headaches yesterday.

I'm guessing they've never been beaten by Ireland before or only scraped over Wales by 1 point either. This NZ team was beatable. They ran away with it at the end but Australia couldn't land the killer punch when they needed to, despite being in the position to do so.

Yep, Aus back row pretty much non-existent. Wright tried hard. Jones and ASY (Angus Scott-Young) both missing in action. I am yet to figure out where the wraps on Jones come from - named captain for the NZ series and after that I think Thompson felt obligated to stick with him. Had no impact around the ground...

That is encouraging. To throw a name in for the vacant spot - Guy Porter plays 13/15/wing and would have nabbed a wing spot this year IMO if not for injury. I suspect Tuipolotu, Maddocks and Jooste may be playing some regular Super next year - how will that affect their availability?

The Aus back line is really singing tonight, Jooste doing a great job.

Hard to win a game when you can't win any of your own line outs or scrums. Backline was strong.

Should be at 10 no doubt. 10. Jooste 12. Tuipolotou 13. Magnay Should have been the way

Scrum getting dominated. Aus back row has no presence. This lateral play has come from having a 10 whose first instinct is to plant and pass, and a 12 who is not a 12. We need someone there capable of getting over the gain line.

I think if they were desperate to fit in Jooste then Mason would be the one looking over his shoulder. To be honest I would like to see Jooste get that 10 spot but the choice has seemingly been made.

Crichton would be first forward picked in the Aus side. Hopefully he comes back one day.

Game 1 I didn't think much of either winger but not an outside back's game. Fittock was really good yesterday I thought. He seems like a footballer rather than just an athlete. Made some great decisions in defence and put his body on the line impressively.

2016 Under-20 Rugby World Championships - Manchester UK

I think 12 has Tuipulotu's name on it with Magnay in 13. They have put their eggs in the Mason basket at 10, and Maddocks is key at 15.

Jooste was very good. Classy. Will be interesting to see what they consider the full strength back line after today. Would love to find a spot for Jooste but the question is where. I don't see where they fit him unless they make a big call on dropping someone. May just have to be the super sub...

Any reason you say that? Any notable guys from this year's NSW crop going to be back next year?

Have to agree on NSW. I was astounded how poor they looked in the Super comp. McCauley and Maddocks rightfully got their spots but I can't think of any others who can cry foul from NSW.

    9. Tuttle 10. Mason 12. Tuipulotou 13. Magnay 15. Maddocks That back line core there is quite strong for the WC, especially if you get Hutchinson on a wing. Let those guys have a run together. Mason didn't get a lot of help on Tuesday, unfair to criticise him. Whether the breakdown is...

^^^^^ Maddocks was in the same age group as Porter at Scots, he turns 19 this year as well. Did anyone here watch the game? Who went well from both sides? That QLD team looks strong on paper, not surprised they came away with it.
