Australian Schoolboys & National Championships 2017

I'm pretty sure that the UK tour took place over the Christmas break. I have a copy of the book "Ella, Ella, Ella"somewhere, bought in the early 80's, which had a lot of coverage of the tour and the boys on it which I found interesting at the time. I also went to an exhibition match at...

No worries mate. I was just responding to the suggestion that MCA have been actively recruiting, which I'm almost positive is incorrect. Having said that, I still know nothing about Inose Nadolo, or how/why he has enrolled at Ashgrove. I'm assuming that he's going on the upcoming First XV...

You're right about sumthing at least. MCA is part of Met North, not Met West, so no Ashgrove boys will be playing for Met West this year or ever.

Sorry mate, but "Happyman" seems to be a very inappropriate sobriquet for you - so much vitriol before a single ruck or maul has been formed. I actually know how/why Kale Van Dugteren came to MCA last year, and it definitely wasn't a rugby-based decision. In rugby terms he sounds pretty handy...

Kale was in Year 10 last year and arrived at Ashgrove in Term 3. He might have played one First XV game for IGS, or run on as a replacement once or twice, but otherwise I'm pretty sure he was in the 16A's.

    QLD GPS Rugby 2017

Well said Jets, pretty much agree with that analysis. I think there's a place for scholarships within the GPS rugby system, and we all know that the Genie is never going back in the bottle, but my view is that there needs to be some sense of proportion to achieve lasting success at First XV...

Just thinking about it Happyman, this boy would be a first cousin of Emosi Tuquir, who has boarded at Ashgrove since Year 8. As you would know, those Fijiian family ties are very strong, so that's probably your answer right there. It sounds like you've seen this boy play for Souths, do you...

It's news to me mate, but you obviously know more about how and why he came to MCA than I do. Good luck to the boy, hopefully he does really well at the school in all facets.

No idea, I only know he was in the Qld squad/team as per the Reds website. I've probably gone out on a limb here with Downes, as whilst I've seen plenty of him running and throwing I've never actually seen him play rugby. However, I do know that MCA coach likes him, which is one of the reasons...

Sorry mate, I don't know the answer to that.

I'm pretty sure you'll see John Downes from this year's 15A's playing 6 for MCA next year. In 2016 Downes won the Australian U15 weightlifting title (national record of 130kg in the clean and jerk), won the State shot put title and played in the Qld U15 rugby team, so not a bad trifecta...

I'm not sure where the rumours of "imports' at Ashgrove are coming from, almost certainly untrue. Brendan Kiernan, who has coached GPS Prem Colts, will be assisting Dave Miles next year, so a brand new coaching team for 2107 who look like they will have plenty to work with without any late...

I'm told that Lauries have retained the same coaches for their First XV.

Cerise and Blue are the traditional colours of the Marist order, hence why Joeys in Sydney use those colours and why Rosalie (as the first Marist school in Queenlsand) used to as well. Ashgrove tends to wear the Cerise and Blue strip on the pre-season tours and in trials. I'm not sure about...

Tom's definitely older than Richard. Pretty sure Tom finished at BSHS in 1974, Richard captained the First XV at Nudgee in 1978.

I agree with all of those points SB. My thoughts about the size and strength of forwards at Ashgrove (which others are free to disagree with) are simply a reiteration of the old saying that, all other things being equal, a good big man will always beat a good small man. So, not much...

Ashgrove definitely wasn't robbed, if anything they may have had the better of the refereeing decisions although both Padua yellow cards seemed to have been earned. Our guys tried hard, made a couple of bad calls which cost them points, but clearly the better side won on the day. In my view...

    AIC Rugby 2016

I'm assuming that you're joking. If anything I thought that the ref kept the scoreline down, awarding numerous penalties against Ashgrove's dominant scrum (which may or may not have been technically correct) and not playing much advantage, but on the whole he was pretty fair. My impression...

No worries, nice to start the season with 2 home games. Makes it easier to tip Padua then.

What's the story with Ethan Pringle? Is he back for Padua this week? On a different note, do any of the SPC supporters give SPC a good chance of a win this week? Playing at home will be a big boost for them, but not sure if it will be enough to even the scales.
