Quite so, but when was the last time IGS didn't have a big pack? BBC cop a lot of flak for not yet getting the desired return on their investment, but is it fair to say that IGS escapes the same kind of scrutiny given their many years of mediocre First XV results?

    QLD COLTS 2018

De Flavis and Jaz Day were actually the halves for the Ashgrove First XV in both 2015 and 2016, so if they’re both at GPS this year they won’t have much trouble forming a combination. Jaz is a good player as well, playing Firsts for 3 years and off the bench for Qld 1’s last year.

    QLD COLTS 2018

Isaac De Flavis is the guy you’re asking about, turns 19 this year so still eligible for Colts and likely to be back. Underrated player in my view, bright kid as well (OP1).

Very quiet in here so I thought I'd post an early version of the MCA First XV and see whether we can get some predictions for the other schools: 1. Liam O'Kelly 2. Ben Byrne 3. Blake Roszka 4. Jacob Heinke 5. Ben Geraghty 6. Lachlan Howse 7. Dougal Perrers 8. John Downes 9. Luke Ford 10. Zach...

HLF, I'm a bit curious about the basis for your suggestion that SPC has a "very strong opens group" this year, as v SPC in 2017 MCA won the 16A's 50-7 and the 16B's 98-0. I know SPC had at least two good 16's, Brad Kuhn and Louis Maritz, in the First XV, but not sure about anyone else. At...

Hey Ali What can you tell me about another Valleys boy, MCA's Zac Brooks? Pretty sure Brooks was the only AIC boy who made the Qld U16's RL side this year, I know he played 13 for the MCA 16A's this year but seems to fly under the radar compared to many of the other leaguies. You'd think that...

Is Hamiso in Year 11 at BGS? How is the new BGS 10, ex- touch player, going so far?

What a great forward pack SPC had in 2016 - 2 Australian schoolboy reps in Connors and Sikimeti plus Jeral Skelton as a starter for Qld 1. I didn't see Padua in 2017 so can't comment on their boys, but on what I saw Connors and Law were easily the best players in AIC this year and both would...

    AIC Rugby 2017

Farewell to AIC rugby for 2017. Firstly, thanks to all of you who have so warmly congratulated the MCA First XV on their undefeated premiership. Secondly, by my count MCA won 9/13 AIC premierships this year, including the 9A's, 10A's, 16A's and all of the open grades, which is a pretty good...

If this year's AIC team does nothing else they should easily set a record for the heaviest-ever front row - those boys would collectively approach 370kg. Fitness and mobility would be a concern with them though. I don't know the second rows, but 7 and 8 are top quality backrowers. The 6...

I can confirm all of those MCA selections in the AIC team, with Lachy Tennison-Woods (11) making the Chairman's XV. I'm assuming that most of the Padua boys made themselves unavailable? Is Cheer still injured? At the very least he would have been a walk-up start at 13.

Ali, I've only seen a few MCA games but I'm not sure you're right about the MCA wingers being starved of the ball. Firstly, if you were at the SPC game you would have seen the MCA 14, Van Dugteren, get more ball than I've seen a right winger get in years, scoring 2 tries and making break after...

Thanks mate. Unfortunately it looks like Emosi is paying a price for 4 weeks or so of enforced inactivity due to the injury sustained in the Padua game, as his fitness looked pretty good (much better than last year) before that. If Emosi was at 8, I'm guessing Carroll was playing 5 or 6 with...

Did Emosi Tuquiri run out for MCA on Saturday? Hopefully both Emosi and Michael Cheer will be right to play for AIC this year, both very important players if fit. Any suggestions as to who plays 10 for AIC this year? I'm not totally sold on the MCA 10 at rep level and haven't seen the SLC...

To answer your question Latho, are the start of the sesaon MCA would have happily taken a joint premiership to start righting the ship, but expectations have changed such that anything less than an outright premiership will be a disappointment given the quality of the opposition. But make no...

So Ash is the team really under pressure tomorrow, not SLC? Well, here are the reasons why I'm inclined to disagree: - SLC have no shot at a premiership unless they win, whereas Ash can afford to drop a game; - Ash have very strong First XV's coming through over the next couple of years, but...

Admittedly not relevant to AIC rugby in 2017, but does anyone know what's happened to Padua's Michael Wood since he finished school last year? I know he suffered a season-ending arm injury in mid-2016 which may have cost him an Australian Schools spot, but I haven't seen or heard of him in...

My understanding is that Ashgrove have several forwards out injured in the 9A's, on top of losing two other forwards to BGS since last year. As a result the Ash 9A's pack is under-strength but the backs look pretty good. Still, Villa should start favourites v Ash at home in the last round...

    CAS Rugby 2017

I saw Cranbrook play in Brisbane just before Easter, and to be honest they looked incredibly ordinary. I thought at the time that they were going to get some real beltings in the CAS comp, and that was before the strength of Waverley, Knox and Barker became apparent, so I can understand the...

Connors from SPC at 8 and Law from MCA at 7 is a helluva start for the AIC backrow. Not sure who is the front runner for 6, although MCA's Brosnan has gone well.
