    AIC Rugby 2021

A good day of Rugby at Norths. SLC and PAD ran big squads on the day - big PAD forwards dominated the SLC pack at scrum time with SLC backline looking slightly sharper across the paddock - SEC were good in patches (big #8 was impressive as was #11) to beat SLC - an aggressive SLC won the forward...

The SLC 7 was very strong and Bryant definitely could slot into second row? I saw the slc v splc game their standards were the 6 and 8 - what position was john radel? I had heard he was strong? I thought the villa 3 was strong too but only saw the mca props in the lauries trial.

Agree 100%. Just reactionary. Padua ventured up to Ipswich when it was Covid Central after the Wacol outbreak when there was a real risk. Feel sorry for the boys. Moving forward I think the AIC should consider having a grand final at least for the Firsts, Seconds and A teams - top two ranked...

If both SLC and MCA were undefeated in their respective pools would a joint premiership be in order? Usually goes on points (wins) - will stand corrected though.

Would be a shame -Padua made the trek out to the switch amidst the wacol cluster - a little concerning that fixture wasn't cancelled actually.

I think SLC is probably pretty competitive in most age groups (but i don't know to be honest and will stand corrected) - Iona are always strong so no surprise to see them figuring prominently. SLC/IONA/MCA all big cohorts. Still think some thought might have been given to playing the Opens at...

Pretty clear pattern there re MCA's dominance - boarding school and largest cohort .....plus a lot of hard work. Would have been an interesting discussion re location of the Opens Grand Final, given MCA were a shoe-in, a neutral venue may have been appropriate?

A big advantage for the MCA boys having a home game for the Grand Final. Anyone know the match-ups yet, particularly in the Opens - I am aware of MCA v SLC in both First XV and Second XV as both schools undefeated in their pools. I think it will be a clean sweep for the Southside schools...

SLC out gritted a much bigger Iona side in the Seconds as well. Dominated the scrum with a couple of wind against the feed too. Both sides played well though.

A big loss for MCA - he was certainly the biggest player in that pack but MCA will have the depth to cover him - the MCA Seconds were a formidable pack too. Floyd Aubrey is the guy who elevates MCA to another level - he scored/set up 4/5 tries against SLC in the trial, things decidedly closer...

Good point - F/A will come into play so hard to be sure who will play who. I would predict the final round to be as follows: 1. MCA v SLC. 2. SPC v VILL 3. PAD v IONA 4. SEC v SPLC

    AIC Rugby 2020

A shame as at full strength looked a good side - the brown dogs will likely finish behind MCA and SPC in the pool and based on the recent videos would struggle against all of the Southside teams.

Sounds pretty close ....given Marist put 70 on Eddies last week, Padua are in for a thumping next week unless they can pull something new out of their hats.

A cliffhanger at St Peter's. Lauries getting up at the death with a conversion. Massive St Peters pack were very physical but SLC wanted it more I think. SPLC best were 6band 8. Lauries was a mighty team effort. 15 looked good today. Strong win by the SLC seconds too.

Great summary T-Bone. I haven't watched that game on the livestream. Good to see some positivity in your post too. You have identified some names of standout players - anyone else seen standouts?? For me (I don't really know names): SLC: 8 (Bryant), 4 (Ryan Jackson) - two massive units...

Fair point but not being able to put away a side a man down for 35 minutes is an issue. Kudos to all players on a great game - Villa had a good crack but came up short.

Lots of disgruntled villa Dads on the forum it seems. Being honest the decision to send off the SLC winger for the second half was questionable given the others involved - that send off was a gift that wasn't capitalised on.

All the talk was Eddies and Pat's as easy beats - well done Pat's. Better side on the day.

This is embarrassing for the men in brown. They ought to bring in an AIC by-law that you have to play with 14 players if you call non-contested scrums. There's no place for tactical non-contested scrums in First XV rugby.
