    Rebels 2013

So we can consider him lost to Aus Rugby.

    Waratahs 2013

Some highlights of the young man

    Waratahs 2013

In regards to Skelton, he's only 19 and they may see him as a project. Evidently AJ Gilbert is there and I'd say he's been on of the better Shield players of recent seasons and Samu was competing for the final EPS spot only a month or so ago. They don't seem all that bad to me. We also need to...

Should the ARU cut their losses and abolish the National Academies?

That was my thinking. In time it could evolve into what we need below Super Rugby naturally. Some clubs will get stronger and others will weaken forcing them to look to relegate themselves back to subbies. Not ideal but it is perhaps what is needed.

    Shute Shield 2013

I think you've posted something similar to that before, not bad but I would actually scratch the two BaaBaas squads initially. Actually no, scrap that. Keep the BaaBaa squads. If it based on a qualification process via the SS and HC then we can assume there my not be any representatives from...

    Rebels 2013

Any idea how he is going at Toulouse? I've seen him in passing and he looks an absolute monster.

    Shute Shield 2013

I look at it as more a development issue that comes with an entertainment aspect to it. If you consider my suggestion above, if you brought in teams from Mel, Perth and the ACT along with all the NSW based players in the Shield, you would have I believe a highly competitive competition with a...

Should the ARU cut their losses and abolish the National Academies?

I've suggested on the Shute Shield thread that with the franchises looking to bypass the academies with Colleges, Talent groups or Wider Training Groups perhaps the money used on the national setup could be used to fund the participation of representative squads from Mel, Perth and the ACT in...

    Waratahs 2013

Agreed. But if if all that comes in a package of that size. It could be devastating to see on the pitch.
  10. WorkingClassRugger

    Waratahs 2013

Jeez. That would be an impressive sight. To be fit and 136kg would be something else to witness. Do you reckon we'll ever see him in a Tahs jersey?

    Shute Shield 2013

I agree. In terms of being able to develop a new concept (it's the preferred route but being realistic) I think unless as you say, it is privately funded it simply is a pipe dream. However, and I'd like to link this in with the discussion regarding the National Academies on the general Rugby...

    Shute Shield 2013

We need as much of our best up and coming or developing playing consistently against one another. If you look at our just at our SANZAR partner and even Argentina who have club and provincial set ups it is a proven method in developing talent to move further on to Super Rugby. Not sure how it could be...

Should the ARU cut their losses and abolish the National Academies?

Well, considering I was still in HS when I first started. Yes. However, I left home after HS with a few mates. If you are going to bring up the whole responsibilities of living away from home I used to cook all my meals on a Sunday as well as do my obligations. Same for while I was at home. My...

    Shute Shield 2013

That's great. But, I think having come from South Western Sydney he'd would do the game a greater service going to the likes of Parramatta.

    Olympic sevens selection

Wouldn't mind a Super 7s concept. I'd actually like it run over the Summer months. Include all of the Aus/NZ franchises and could reasonably look to use teams from around the region in Samoa, Fiji and Tonga. I actually think it would go quite well.

    Queensland Junior Rugby

I'd be happy enough to start to see Vic squads topple NSW/Qld squads as well as it indicates growing strength in the system down there which is something the game really does need. I know its occurring in WA as well perhaps a little slower but their level of junior club Rugby is being to really...

    Queensland Junior Rugby

Regardless on the actual scoreline and the preparations of both teams, it's still particularly encouraging.

    Queensland Junior Rugby

That's quite impressive for the Vic boys. Is this a first?

Should the ARU cut their losses and abolish the National Academies?

In terms of the 7s set up. Going from the results our team(s) have recorded over the past two seasons apart from the Tokyo event, and London the year before, the general level of performance has been rather disappointing. This suggests there's something serious flawed in the system.

Should the ARU cut their losses and abolish the National Academies?

That already occurs regardless of the $5,000 offered by the ARU to take part in the Academy setups and contrary to many, the budget for those Toyota Cup teams isn't significant by any means. Many of those who take up that option do so due to greater opportunities to possible move on to the NRL...
