    Refereeing decisions

Discussion here and elsewhere about knocking the ball down being a YC offence. Just a thought, but would it be fairer all round if the test for a YC was that a penalty try is awarded. So that, if the offence causes a try not to be scored, then the offender is YCed, in all other cases just a penalty?

    Brumbies v Reds, Bruce Stadium, 7/4/2018 @7:45pm

BH, I've long been a fan of Matt's, even to the extent I thought he was outplaying your first two picks at No 9 for the Tahs last year. There is no doubt that he has an all-round game with few if any real weaknesses, but his form this year has been below par. He was not good v the Tahs and had...

Super Rugby Round 8, Sunwolves vs Waratahs - Saturday 3:15pm

Still works in some games FP. Maybe some of our players' defensive capabilities are still at U7s level as well?

Hard to assess Lucas (Ben) v Tuttle as Ben had little involvement in the game. But clearly, Powell was much superior to Matt Lucas and also outplayed Tuttle in his time on the pitch. Great to see him running from the base of the scrum and setting up backline plays that resulted in around 20m...

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Alternatively, could be North v South as the harbour provides a natural boundary. That would also achieve a more equitable division of talent, I believe.

The penalty was for Higgers coming in from the side to clean Poey out as he had his hand on the ball. Absolutely a correct decision.

Joe Powell brought a higher intensity and skill level to the side when he replaced Matt Lucas. Don't know why he gets such bad press from opposition fans - must be something to do with his long locks I think. He is at least on par with the likes of Gordon and Ruru, and I'm just pleased that we...

The difference, Zero, is that Pocock propelled the ball towards his own goal line, so not a knock on and clearly a legitimate action. The YC only comes into play when the ball is "deliberately" knocked on, ie, propelled towards the opposition goal line.

Super Rugby Round 8, Sunwolves vs Waratahs - Saturday 3:15pm

There will be two game plans when Izzy is back. Two smoking barrels, one on each wing. Oppositions will have a huge job containing them. Beale was back to his turnstyle defensive efforts last night. He should be embarrassed by more than a couple of his tackle attempts.

    Reds 2018

With such a young/inexperienced side, Scoey, it was always bound to happen, if not last night then at some time during the season. Will be a good learning exercise for them.

ACT Brumbies v NSW Waratahs, GIO Stadium 31 March

Too few and far between. It is instructive that his fans still hark back to his game at No 6 a couple of years ago to claim he is a quality player.

Funny thing, that. Lineouts are different in many respects to scrums, and one of those aspects is that the inside shoulder will be either the right or left depending on which side of the field the lineout occurs. So, if they did indeed throw to the RH shoulder all night, then probably roughly...

    Un-Australian Activities 2018

Have never seen him have an acceptable game since he started a year or so ago. Think he might have got chipped about his ending the game last week when the Tahs pulled down the Brumbies maul on the try line after full time. He certainly went out of his way to allow the Canes to stay in there for...

    Rugby News from unexpected places

Was there a time WOB where 7s representation for one country didn't interfere with eligibility for another? I am aware that Jordan Smiler represented Australia at 7s after he had previously represented NZ. Maybe the Tongan player is of similar vintage?

Evidence last week that it might be rubbing off onto Hanigan as well. Or is that just the manifestation of the pre-match defensive lineout training undertaken, according to Phipps, by Simmo?

    The Wallabies Thread

OK UTGs, but wanting to see a bit more must mean he has to either start or come off the bench in order to show you what he has.

Hell - most unlikely fairy tale on these threads since someone suggested the Wallabies might beat the ABs/.

Gerrardo back for the Rats? Did I see Baxter King turn out for the Force a couple of times last year?

I think the Brumbies have a game plan, of sorts, but it just doesn't look like a plan that will win games. Incredible if the Bookies have the Reds as outsiders.
