Signing a Mungo who played for Australia is completely different to signing a kid from the 20's who didn't get an offer to play in the NRL IMO.

I am no fan of Foley, but I am certain he was mortified when they did that with 30 sec to go. I think he was quite restrained, he could hardly support such a stupid call, but IIRC did not lay the blame with anyone either.

There are plenty suggesting he will be a failure at Rugby, which is a completely different issue to whether he is value, or a good investment for the code. I am confident that he will succeed on the field, but sceptical that he will be a good investment.

After only the first trial,most teams are not reduced to 2 options at 10, the first option being a 15 with a handful of games at 10 at this level.And an understudy who played almost all, if not the entire season in SS at 15. It's almost like Foley knew he was going, and left a bag of crap behind...

Either that, or it demonstrates that if you do not make it at schoolboy level then you are finished. Have a look at the 7's side. If you could not field a team from the SS that would flog these kids, then I would give up. If you are not an early physical developer and make the state 16's side...

There is nothing wrong with Joeys giving a talented but disadvantaged kid an education from yr 7. If they enrolling 15 yo's after the Long weekend state champs and sending off into the big wide world with no ATAR at the end of their "education" it would be a different story.
