Waratahs v Force, round 1, Sunday 15 February

Ongoing lazy work by the Waratahs gives van Wyk his first try for the WF. AND bonus point. Just love the hype and crap from FoxSports' commentators. Initial first round win for the WF against last year's champs. Some good kicking on goal would have been a really good score. SWEEEEET :):D:D:D

Waratahs v Force, round 1, Sunday 15 February

Waratahs showing all the benefits of having a team full of Wobblies. 20:8 with 12 minutes remaining. Go you good things!!! Lot of lazy work by the Waratahs at the breakdown going unpinged by Walsh.

Waratahs v Force, round 1, Sunday 15 February

Half time - Waraths 3:8 Force. Getting a bit tired of the string of excuses for the Waratahs being played out by the FoxSports commentators. Force should have been further in front. Waratahs seemed to have left their mojo back in the rooms. Hope it's still missing after half-time.

    Western Force 2015

Excellent....Now the same for Matt Hodgson and the WF is really on a roll!

    Western Force 2015

Wykes has really stepped up under Michael Foley and did a good job of leading the Perth Spirit. I'd expect him to be given a chance as skipper. All of the leadership group will need to step up. Suspect Hodgson will travel with the team, at least for the Aussie games, to keep on working with...

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

There is no evidence of this in the Bok2 game (under Link). In the Arg2 and Bled 3 games (under Link) there is some evidence that either Hooper or Fardy may have had a period of lesser effort for 10 minutes around the 60 minute mark (when players have come off the bench) before a bigger effort...

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

If you check out my posts on the thread for each of the Tests you can see that I've posted the ruck involvement for each player for each 10 minutes of the game. There is clearly strategies related to cycling players through rucks and as ball runners etc. as well as actually resting players...

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

Have checked through the stats for England. The player arriving 1st gets credit for impact ~97% of the time. ~33% arriving 2nd make no impact. ~67% arriving 3rd, 4th, 5th or later still make no impact.

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

We're certainly lacking the "mongrel" lock/s such as Vickerman or Madness or Potgeiter. I don't think that we can develop one before the RWC. Maybe Coleman by 2019. I'm unsure if Jones has the mentality and discipline to make a big impact at Test level. 3 stupid penalties in 93 minutes is a...

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

I know that the current coach and I wouldn't agree on much but we do have one thing in common - neither of us has played at the elite level. I saw little to indicate to me that Chieka in any way acknowledged that for many/most of the squad 2014 had been a very busy year - both physically and...

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

I'm enjoying the discussion and comments. There's a lot of comments about the "impact" stat. I included the term "active engagement" as this can include providing a strong bridge over the ball or pilferer, keeping low and actively looking/preparing for a cleanout by the opposition. It does...

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

It's not just Hooper's Defensive ruck stats - it goes for the whole team. Nothing shows it more than the last 10 minutes against Wales: Hooper made 17 rucks; 16 in Attack and only the single in Defence. He made 6 tackles in this 10 minutes. Hodgson made 18 rucks; 10 in Attack and 8 in Defence...

Spring Tour - Wallaby Forwards - What do the stats tell me?

There's been a heap of discussion on all forums about the Wallaby Forward pack and especially performace at scrums. But what about other aspects of their game? Recognising that it’s difficult to get reliable rugby stats, and frustrated by nothing being available on Ruck stats, and having some...

    England v Australia

He gave away 2 silly penalties - one resulting in 3 points - and could easily have been penalised more. Trying too hard, if that's possible the way that we're playing, and repeatedly "cleaned out" English players not attached to the ruck. In fact anybody even close to the ruck. His ruck stats...

    England v Australia

Sorry mate....this had done my head in just doing for the Wallabies. Started the analysis with the Cape Town Test and continued it through to the last Test on Spring Tour. I've decided that I don't want a career in game analysis - but it's been interesting. I'm hoping to put something...

    England v Australia

Have added my ruck stats to other stats from ESPN Scrum. Forwards' ruck involvement as follows: + Hooper (80mins) made 38 rucks, 30 early (79%) and 34 with impact (89%). Hooper's best ruck stats from the 4 Spring Tests. (9 runs for 22m, 8 tackles/2 missed, 1 lineout, 1 turnover, 2 penalties –...

Are we talking about the same Higginbotham who's gone missing in Test rugby in 2014?

Now tell me how/when he brings Skelton on...... A lineout of Jones and Skelton isn't worth thinking about!!
