    Balancing Your Backrow

Read what I said again; Yes he did slow the ruck down, but at no point did the AB's lose the ball. If they wanted to counter ruck, then the other players standing around the ball would have joined in. Counter-rucking is about regaining possession of the pill.

    Balancing Your Backrow

That is pushing a player to the ground, and disrupting the ruck, the way I see it. From what I can see from the last photo, the AB's still maintain control of the ball. An effective counter-ruck aims to blow over the ball and win possession for your team. It is a skill a few teams obviously...

    Afeaki is injured.

    Western Force 2014

I don't mind Charles; he is having injury and form problems at the moment, but is quite a good hooker when he is on form. Realistically if I was forced to choose between Elliot and Mathewson I would choose Alby any day of the week. He was an incredibly astute buy. I have to agree with...

    Springbok Watch

Is it just me or are half of the forwards in that list injured? I know Battleship, Etzebeth and Alberts are quality players, but I don't think they have even played a game this year. Coenie has been riding the bench for the Cheetahs all season too. From that list, you would have to think that...

Brumbies vs Kings - Super Rugby R8 2013

That was really lazy from the Brumbies tonight. Very lucky to walk away with the draw. The lineout misfired tonight also, and the scrum was a shambles at one point. Very disappointing, the Brumbies are a much better team than that.

NO! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! SFR, please undo your transfers and pick players who are not in my team! ;) Except for Gear. You can keep Gear.

    Fantasy Super rugby 2013

Thanks for the heads up hazzaj and welcome to the boards! So far there have been some interesting changes to the lineups, so my advice this week guys would be to wait until all the lineups are out before you sub players. Check out the team lists here. I still haven't got back to that stats...

    Balancing Your Backrow

To add further confusion, look at how South Africa generally structure their backrow. The first thing you will notice is that their 6 will sometimes play similar to how we expect our 7 to play, and vice versa. Nevertheless, South African teams generally don't have a 'fetcher' or on the ball type...

    Balancing Your Backrow

I have to agree with that Scott, although sometimes people tend to get playing wide mixed up with 'hanging out on the wing'. If your 6 is playing out near the wingers, then he will not be effective as he should be. I suppose that is the distinction between playing loose and seagulling. I might...

    Waratahs 2013

This is an easy one Richo. Quite simply, the Waratahs will cherry pick the best talent from the Shute Shield and will therefore weaken the comp. It is quite a cunning strategy; thumbing their nose at the rugby community in Sydney by taking all the top talent out of it for their own devious...

Stormers vs Crusaders Round number 7

This had me in stitches Blue. The visuals I conjured when reading it!

Stormers vs Crusaders Round number 7

Dagg has been ruled out. Guildford will start and Tom Marshall will move to fullback.

    Team Lists Round 7

Crusaders have had a late change to their lineup! Israel Dagg is out due to injury and Zac Guildford will now start.

Highlanders v Reds Good Friday 29th March

Not really. I actually think that Schatz is coming on quite nicely at 8. Quirk to me is stuck between developing his own game and 'playing like Higgers'. 6 is his best position though. And he does tend to play quite tight and relishes the contact area.

Highlanders v Reds Good Friday 29th March

Agreed. Ships had a bloody good game tonight. He was consistently threatening the line every time he received the ball. Ran hard, ran into gaps, and asked questions of the defence. He was very solid defensively too. I love an outside back that will use his size and speed when on the attack. I...

Highlanders v Reds Good Friday 29th March

Apart from a couple of things, I actually thought that Peyper had a reasonable game with the whistle. He gave decent advantage, and was pretty clear as to his expectations for the breakdown. Very glad we got the win though - and the full 5 points at that. Both teams came out willing to play...

Highlanders v Reds Good Friday 29th March

Cracker of a game so far, both teams are showing good intent with the ball. Ant is frustrating me though, he's given away a few penalties for being offside. Gill is a freak. The guy is everywhere.

  20. The Red Baron

Highlanders v Reds Good Friday 29th March

This is going to be a tough game - for both sides. For me, both the Reds and Highlanders have been playing at about the same level; the only difference is that the Reds have been managing to get away with a few wins while the Highlanders have ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard...
