This is an incredibly close competition this year. The schedule makers and results gods have given us an incredibly tight race home to the post these last 3 weeks. I suspect all hands on deck from rugby Australia this week and letting Aus A players back to club rugby (maybe even some wallabies)

I don’t think it’s the state of our fields why wests not hosting… looks like a bit of rotation happening with the hosts… last year wests, gps got to host and it doesn’t look like it’s replicated in 2023.

Belly easier said than done spotting head knocks when you don’t have the advantage of video replay like they do in super rugby. If neither ref, medic of doctor doesn’t see the incident and player has play on mentality then yeah of course it’s up to the player

Lot of head knocks are simply missed… it’s not like qpr is at level of super rugby with video replay. If a player shows signs but medical staff miss the initial concussion… it’s kind of on the onus of the player in that scenario… but what player is going to sub themselves off after going dizzy

GPS has norths and Sunnybank upcoming. If you were to back the favourites they’ll walk away with 10 points there… If they beat brothers this weekend - I think they will be the team for the 4th spot.

Easts also has a bye week… that could be their downfall - wests has a bye week as well… I think out of the top 6 teams - Easts road home is the hardest

I’m just being a smart alec… I think Easts will get thru to the finals but with matches against gps, wests and brothers remaining and all 3 of those teams sitting behind them - chance they can slip out of favour

On a 8 team comp agent this is how I would have seedings 1. Qpr winner vs 8. ACT 2nd place 2. Shute shield winner vs ACT 1st place 3. qPR 2nd place vs Shute shield 3rd place 4. Shute shield 2nd place vs Qpr 3rd

Sorry I’m not discrediting the merits - would prefer the NRC model where ACT can field a competitive team. Your suggestion definitely better than nothing

Even then I don’t think the Canberra clubs are closer to qld/nsw and more terms of quality to the WA comp. Canberra is a really small town who has to import their rugby talent via the qld/nsw rugby nurseries

You mean qld rugby will be using the Easts rugby ground to host the qpr finals? If Easts lose their next 3 games is their a pathway for GPS/South’s into top 4?

Tbh there’s a huge drop off in quality after QPR and Shute shield… Some form of rebalancing between qld and nsw clubs would need to happen to account for the weaker rugby provinces in ACT, WA & VIC

One of the problems with NRC which needs be revisited if Stan decided it wanted proceed Put games on Saturday night… in prime time. There’s no afl and rl to compete with in October… If Stan/channel 9 did this on free to air… it would be a ratings bonanza… casual rugby fan isn’t in their right...
