Crock of shit. They actively recruit outstanding athletes, which is totally different to advertising, and selecting from the pool of applicants, after assessing their personal qualities.

Huh? I thought a high quality sports program was one that turned my bumbling 12 or 13yo into a well drilled, fit sportsman with a good understanding of the games he is playing. When all along, it's got no benefit to my Algernon at all, apart from bragging rights when he sits in the stands...

Not sure what point I'm making, cos I'm not suggesting legalising cocaine, nor prohibition of alcohol. But the long term effects (apart from weight loss) look very similar to those of alcohol (without the violence)

    Shute Shield 2018

^^^^^ I must have deleted mypost (too argumentative)just as you posted your query above. Both Manly & Rats posted crowds circa 7k on derby day. Which is significantly higher than the actual crowd against the Kings? When they declared a 10k crowd. Even in the unlikely event that the Tahs number...

It's funny that whenever a pro is appointed to take over from an enthusiastic amateur to improve their pool of talent. their first move is to recruit better talent.

^^^^ I'm more concerned about his ability to read the play at 13, that's the hardest spot to defend bar none. He's hardly been an exceptional defender in a position he know well.

There's been plenty of examples where incoming CEOs have completely transformed their businesses. It requires the support of the Board, not control of the Board. Alan Joyce is a good example, you would also recall "chainsaw" Dunlop who did The dirty work in re aligning some of Packers business...

The grass roots don't need motherhood statements, they need cash. To give it to them, you have to take it off someone else. She's going to have to upset some people, or she will have no impact.

hmm, unless she turns the joint upside down, nothing will improve. No criticism of her, but I don't see that's ever been a style that she has employed previously. Expect more of the same.

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

The 2 best teams probably do get greater representation, but the core of each NRC team is about 10 full time pros. The NRC teams are without the grand finalists for a week, that's not season defining. In any event, in many cases there's not much between the SS players within each squad, for...

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

Storm in a teacup. There are 3 Sydney NRC teams. There can only be 2 SS clubs in their GF. How many in a NRC squad these days? How many from 1 club start in their NRC team? So in the first round two of the NRC teams might be marginally weaker. It's not like the NRC season starts with a lot...

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

Turn down the hyperbole, I'm actually a fan of the NRC, but don't accept many of your assertions regarding its current standing. As a comp, it's still got its training wheels on. Your initial suggestion that players who don't abandon their club after a 10 or 11 month commitment and be available...

The Board undoubtedly approves strategy or vision, but the better CEO's identify opportunities and present these to the board for approval. There is no perfect candidate, but if I had a say, I would have asked Gallup to apply.

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

So professional some teams acknowledge its not feasible to charge spectators an admission fee? So professional that most under 13's have a more comprehensive preparation for the state champs than NRC teams?( yes there are reasons for it, but it doesn't alter the fact that NRC teams are...

She announced she was leaving in May, she left at the end of the season. Your scenario 1 is unlikely, given she was Haslers biggest fan. I'd be more bullish on her appointment if she had turned NZ mungo around, and not merely been engaged in an inquiry. Her results at the Bulldogs were mediocre.

The problem with the NRC and how to fix it

Why don't we just bar anyone from ever playing the game again, if they choose to play a GF for which they have trained I in the previous 10 months,in favour of the first round of a competition that is less professional in many respects.

    Cape Town 7's: 9 & 10 December

No it didn't. It meant we either had to beat NZ, or beat the yanks and have a good enough differential to go thru. The yanks were legless last week and are still without their best player this week. I'd be looking beyond the draw when doing the analysis of what went wrong this week.
