    Where to for Super Rugby?

I think it feeds into the broader critique that Super Rugby is now too hard for the casual fan to follow. The conference system, the finals system, the scoring system. Whilst logical, you need to be a hardcore fan to understand what is going on. .

    Where to for Super Rugby?

OK so lets for a second assume we are running back Super Rugby in 2020 and beyond, in the current format. What can SANZAAR do to bring back fans? I think the best option could be a leaf out of the Twiggy playbook, and going with rule variations. Super Rugby's initial appeal was the style...

2018 TV ratings and crowd numbers

I reckon the Brumbies loss took the wind completely out of the sails of Waratahs fans. The low crowd on Saturday was probably a reaction to that, as I don't think anyone realistically thought they were premiership contenders. It was also really cold, which does play in people's minds as...

I think Miller is a touch over-rated. He's well below Hooper IMO, and I'd have him behind Colby in the pecking order as well.

2018 Quarter Final NSFW Waratahs vs Otago Highlanders

The Hanigan shoulder could be a YC in 2018 the same way ANYTHING can be a fucking YC in 2018. It wouldn't have shocked me, though it would have annoyed me. It was a penalty, sure, but no need to deprive a team of a player for 10 minutes over that. It was as light as a feather. .

I'd like to see Hodge there. His kicking is a big asset as well.

Only change I'd make to that Slim is to swap out Timu for Naisirani.

Ahh I get it. Hanigan has a good attitude, but Cottrell has a good "attitude". I think both are pretty similar, FWIW. .

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

We're blessed by depth at the moment and I see the argument that Tupou and even AAA may be edging closer - they are both great players. But let's have a look at Kepu's stats for the Ireland series. Keep in mind he's 32 so not super old by prop standards. He made only seven runs, but while he...

Same with Kepu. Can't fathom you're eagerness to ditch him. Bloke is our greatest ever prop, who held up our scrum (again) against Ireland. .

2018 Quarter Final NSFW Waratahs vs Otago Highlanders

Yeah I thought that too. Seems SANZAAR are desperate to save money on airfares, with Jaco Peyper remaining in SA for the Lions/Jags game. The Saders/Sharks has a Kiwi ref, so three of the four games are potentially open to 'ref bias' claims. You'd suggest it would have been smart to at least...

2018 Quarter Final NSFW Waratahs vs Otago Highlanders

It will come back to our defence. The Highlanders conceded 37 to the Rebels, and 40+ to the Crusaders and Chiefs the two weeks before. We're going to get plenty of chances, which we are more than capable of taking. This is where we will really miss Hooper and his work rate. Miller is a nice...

    Round 19 - Waratahs v Brumbies

I thought Gardner was great. One of the few refs that understands the fact that they are there to facilitate the game as quickly and as easily as possible. No screwing around with TMOs and replays, good clear communication, consistency with card decisions.

    Where to for Super Rugby?

Good point Kiap. How can we trial the investor model without knocking down the comp and starting again? Didn't we try that with the Rebels? I could be wrong, I can't say I followed the ins and outs of that ownership model particularly closely. If we can chart a middle ground between the...

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

I agree that To'omua won't walk back into the Wallaby 15. He might not even be in the 23. But coming into a World Cup, depth is key. We've got injury cover, a more competitive squad environment, another experienced head to call on if needed. In a position where our depth is paper thin, this...

    Wallabies 2019 Thread

This whole discussion is a little weird, IMO. Unless someone here has actually been on the field at Super/Wallaby level in the recent past, realistically they are just guessing, aren't they? I don't know who calls the lineout, who they consult, whether they consider the larger ramifications of...
