The impending Hooper vs Pocock Dilemma

One thing I'll say about Pocock's running game is this - When he use to start for the wallabies he was used pretty regularly as a ball runner, particularly off the back of the line-out and he was always reliable, if perhaps uninspiring. He never loses the ball in contact, so he's a good ball...

The impending Hooper vs Pocock Dilemma

    Is Hooper's running game really a 10/10? I'd say Folau's running game is a 10/10.

The impending Hooper vs Pocock Dilemma

A lot of discussion on the Wallabies selection thread about the relative importance of different aspects of forward play at the world cup. Given the teams we are playing, I'd probably rate them in the following order:- 1. Breakdown 2. Scrum 3. Defence 4. Attack 5. Physicality 6. Line-out 7...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I think both Fardy and Simmons get penalised regularly because they tend to compete hard for the ball (Simo in the line-out, and Fardy at the ruck and lineout). Horwill is more of a worry. Recently he has become accustomed to being ultra lazy at the ruck. He's often offside or just lying in...

So when we talk about defensive line-out ability, surely Skelton is one of our best selections

plus i think we have to keep in mind that if you're playing a team with a strong rolling maul, chances are your maul defense will be more important than your ability to contest the line-out.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

Having a poor line-out wont, on its own, lose us the world cup. It could definitely be a contributing factor, but even if you only won 40% of your own line-out throws that doesn't mean you couldn't dominate in enough of the remaining facets of the game to win comfortably. Conversely shit work at...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

How could you possibly rate Coleman and Arnold ahead of Simo?? lock is an area we have fuck all experience and you want to discard our most experienced, and over the last 2 years, our most consistent test lock?

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I like the idea of a 6/lock type no.6 packing down on the tighthead side of the scrum, to add extra support to the THP. For that reason I'd be looking at the likes of Fardy, Timani, Jones, Dennis, Mumm, etc for the no.6 jumper.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I could only see Mumm making the squad as a 6, and only if there's an injury or two in that position. Right now I'd have Fardy, Timani and probably Jones ahead of him

    Aussie Player Exodus

We could use both at the Reds. But, I've heard the "Douglas might be back for the WC" rumour 50 times since last November, yet there doesn't seem to be any substance to it.

Has Higgers called at Test level? - If he has, it's certainly something that might tip the scales in his favour come selection time. He's a fringe selection at best at the moment.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I don't really get the hate for Carter. To me he comes across more as 'inconsistent' than 'ineffective'. I think our big problem last year in the 2nd row was that we didn't get the right balance. The Simo/Carter combo doesn't quite work for me. I think you need at least lock who is 120kg+ who...

9 Rounds In, Who's your Wallabies Captain

I like the pairing Moore (c) and To'omua (vc), but I think you probably need to give at least one tah player a letter next to their name, otherwise the nsw players will rise up and destroy the team from within :D

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

i think it's fair to say Tomane has well and truly played himself out of contention over the last 2 weeks. Things that people like about cummins:- - attitude - toughness - loves the collision - plays with real passion for the jersey - which nearly always translates into a good performance...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

I think if you play a 6/2 bench the two most obvious options for the 23rd man are Horne and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper). Both are very versatile. I don't think we need to carry an extra 10 on the bench. In my opinion we are better off carrying a centre/wing. We'll most likely have To'omua already on the field, so I'd...

I like your team BS. Big, physical, ball runners galore. I'd go with something similar, although I'd replace Cummins with JOC (James O'Connor) and put Horne on the bench, rather than Foley.

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

Yeh I'm not sure I'd go so far as to say that White is "not a test player". He just hasn't really had a game at test level where he has been one of the better players on the field. Phipps and Genia have both had plenty. I think the comparison to Phipps is a fair one. Everyone was calling blue...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

A few selection thoughts:- --The White v Genia debate seems like a hot topic. White was woefully slow in his delivery on Friday. Really terrible. Genia was just ok i thought, but easily better than White. I think generally the perceived form of the 9 and 10 of any team rests on how the team...

Wallaby 31 players for 2015 RWC

Just a few comments, firstly, in terms of the Wallabies at the world cup, it doesn't really bother me how our Super teams go this season. whilst I genuinely expect the tahs and the Brumbies to make the finals, it wouldn't bother me too much if neither made the grand final (although I'd like to...
