I thought the same, but had a quick google and found this in the HIA FAQ on the WR (World Rugby) passport: It's a bit unclear as to whether on off-field assessment can be requested after a player has been given the okay, however. Although I do vaguely recall an instance where the MDD has forced someone off...

That probably should've been how it was handled, but again, hindsight is perfect. Bit of a bizarre comment - as I said, I've been critical of him in the past, but thought he actually managed the game quite well. The game flowed, he was very communicative, and he made definitive decisions...

I understand - and in some respects agree with - the point being made, I just think Doleman probably handled it as best he could. To me it seems apparent that Doleman was not certain Botham was knocked out, but assessed the available evidence (Botham's positioning, Wallabies players saying so)...

Sure, but hindsight's 20/20. Doleman called the penalty before realising Botham was potentially injured - McReight and White can be heard on the ref mic alerting him to it as the ball is cleared from the ruck.

Interesting to hear in the post-game that Schmidt implied Sua'ali'i was likely going to come on for Ikitau, not Kerevi.

Doleman has to trust the doctors' judgement. If he reverted his call, we enter the territory of the injury outcome dictating the decision.

Scotland v Wallabies at Murrayfield 12.40am Mon 25 Nov

Their purpose is if someone becomes unavailable. Being in the squad doesn't, and shouldn't, guarantee a game. At the risk of sounding like a broken record, we need to be playing our best available team every week.

What a different team this is to a few months ago. We’re looking like a well rounded team who’s comfortable with ball in hand, able to take our chances, and whose defensive systems mostly working. The Grand Slam is alive. Some rapid fire thoughts: - Really liking that we have Ikitau and Wright...

New "LIV Style" Global Rugby League

Just about the only thing keeping the game of rugby (barely) afloat in Australia are rusted on fans and tribalism. We've seen with the attempts at a second-tier comp that it isn't as simple as 'build it and they will come'.

    Queensland Reds 2025

Who knows what could've been if his hammies had held up - even when he wasn't sidelined, he never looked like he had full confidence in them. I also imagine it would've been tricky to get a proper feel for the 15 man game when he was really only able to play a few games in a row. He did always...

Newscorp has run a (mostly JAS-based, usually an anti-rugby spin) Wallabies story just about every day this week. I don’t even think that happened during the World Cup pile on. We’re back baby!

You have no idea how mad I am that this is the way I found out the team had been announced. I’m screaming.

    Queensland Reds 2025

Yes, it unreasonably irks me that RA/Super don't have a publicly-accessible stats repository / data dashboard with both current and historical data like this. I'm sure it would exist in some capacity internally, but having it available to the nerds seems like it would be a win for engagement.

    Queensland Reds 2025

Any rugby statisticians up for a Friday project? Vunivalu leaves with 16 tries in 39 caps - this strike rate would have to be up there with the Reds' (and maybe even Aus') most tryingest players, no? To keep it fair, it probably needs to only consider players with greater than 20 appearances...
