Should Aus/NZ Test Sides Pick Overseas Players?

Sorry Rob, but I'm a little baffled by how that comment relates to what I was saying. I am in no way encouraging players to leave our domestic pro-comp. What i want is a pr0-comp that is doing its job and providing the opportunities that might be required to encourage these players to stay here...

Should Aus/NZ Test Sides Pick Overseas Players?

I agree but with a caveat. The opportunities need to exist in Australia and the pro rugby needs to be doing it's job in development, in fact ditto the the development pathways below pro rugby. The discussion for me hinges on Super Rugby - which seems to demonstrably be failing.

    Wallabies 2024

Joe, I am yet to be convinced that losing the Rebels was not actually an outcome that RA desired. I'll acknowledge the shit stick of self-inflicted Rebels financial mis-management, but behind closed doors I can still see Ra going "OK, blow the dust off that plan again".

    Australian Rugby / RA

Out of interest, what metric would you need to agree to "disastrous"? Seems to me right now that rugby is going down the gurgler.

    Western Force 2025

Not the same, but it does stink. At best it is piss-poor optics. We've just gone through a situation where the entire Rebels squad had to be accommodated. I'm actually surprised at the level of transfer to the Reds - I suspect there is an argument there that is was excessive. Though I fully...

    Wallabies 2024

Literally for every 4 pro players who remain in Australia there will be 1 who has left. All levels from claimed "world class" to squad players.

    Wallabies 2024

In terms of world rankings - you gain more points for an away win, but a loss greater than 15 points also gets more ranking points. The result in Argentina is that we have been trading places with Italy and are back to #9, while it has costed Argentina who drop from #6 to #7.

    Wallabies 2024

The Rebels top-up is just a sugar hit anyway. Once it settles we will be back to the same squad sizes with a club-worth of players having moved on, a smaller footprint to generate talent, and smaller pathways for development. Season 2025 had better do it for the shrink supporters as after that...

All your facts are right, but this is the one that seriously blows my mind.

It's taken a time for me to get back here. Been playing with Unimogs at the Springs 4x4 park. Deary, deary me. OK, this is all I've got - well done Pumas, great game. Oh, and "fuck off Marce". That is it.

    Broadcast options for Australian Rugby

From this point on, starting here, I am formally reporting posts like this about Football, not rugby, to the mods. I encourage everyone else to do the same. I've been more supportive of Half than many, but I'm done.

    Wallabies 2024

I refuse to include anything from the EJ (Eddie Jones) "era". Under Schmidt we are 3/5. No it's actually a reasonable run especially given the completely new slate, re-selection from scratch and a completely new approach with no time to get it inculcated. Early days though. The next three are no walk in the...

    Argentina v Australia, 8am Sunday 1 Sep (AEST) - TRC Round 3

Noting that we have the info that we have, until Super restarts. It's Lolesio, Donaldson, with Lynagh tracking development for the tests. (Possibly Stewart as another backup.)

    Argentina v Australia, 8am Sunday 1 Sep (AEST) - TRC Round 3

(What makes you think the issue is my call?) Lynagh is not ready. No issue with him getting chances where it is sensible, largely off the bench I suspect. I don't care on the choice between Lolesio and Donaldson. Had Joe been starting Donaldson I'd be saying the same thing - Lolesio does not...

    Argentina v Australia, 8am Sunday 1 Sep (AEST) - TRC Round 3

Nothing against Donaldson but I haven't seen anything to suggest he is a step up. Joe needs to pick and stick at this point.

    Argentina v Australia, 8am Sunday 1 Sep (AEST) - TRC Round 3

Our depth is better, I reckon. We might not be 100% on who is the best 15 out of the 23, but I think our 16 to 23 topped theirs.
